If Tommy Wiseau was really going to audition to play the Joker one could only hope that people would laugh politely and toss the audition tape in the bottom of the deepest trashcan they could find. For one Wiseau isn’t a great director or an actor and quite honestly he’s an oddity that ha gotten more attention for being horrible than for anything else. That seems to be what’s drawing attention these days though as the idea of excellence seems to be slowly being replaced with whatever shock and awe tactics can be used in an attempt to get people to pay attention.
Should the people behind the Batman movies want to tank the films and watch them go down in smoke while it’s happening then sure, Wiseau would be one of the best options for such a fiasco. His acting is no better than it was for the room, which is why this is better as a ‘what if’ scenario than anything. If Wiseau was to be a character in a Batman movie it would be best that he was given a cameo that was there and gone within less than a minute so as to show just how dispensable he is. Really the dislike for this guy isn’t unfounded since simply watching clips of him and of the movie The Room give anyone enough to go on when it comes to stating just how horrible he is no matter how much he thinks he excels at the craft. How he got this far is still kind of hard to believe, but if anyone was ever crazy enough to give him such an iconic role then the future of movies would be in serious jeopardy.
Worse still is that there are actual fans of Wiseau that would probably back him for no better reason than to state that he would in fact be a better choice than several other actors that could make him look like a novice while still asleep. Once again, if all this turns out to be is a ‘what if’ scenario then there’s nothing to worry about. Wiseau will keep on being terrible at what he does and the world can either ignore him or tolerate him at their leisure. Ever since The Room came out he’s been more of an attraction to ogle as people continue to either support him for some odd reason or lambaste him simply because, well, he is that bad.
Hearing that he wants ANY role in a major movie is reason enough to laugh and wonder why he hasn’t gone away yet. There’s something to be said about his tenacity but there’s also something to be said about the fact that even with the chance to get better that he hasn’t progressed at all. Wiseau really seems to be the type that thinks he knows all he needs to know and that anyone who disagrees with him doesn’t know anything. That kind of arrogance mixed with ignorance is a good reason why he’s not worth considering for a lot of roles. If he wants to get better as an actor and consider what people try to tell him, then it’s a tentative maybe that he might go somewhere.
