Superhero movies have become so popular that it can be a serious challenge to keep track of which superhero movies are supposed to be in continuity with which. For example, it is important to note that there is not one but rather two movie franchises based on Marvel Comics, with the second being Sony’s Marvel Universe. Said franchise will start out with the movie called Venom, which makes as much sense as anything else seeing as how it will be restricted to Spider-Man-related characters but not Spider-Man.
Given the name, it should come as no surprise to learn that Venom will be centered around the character of the same name, a human who has bonded with an alien symbiote to result in something that is neither wholly one nor the other but rather something new. Venom started out as a supervillain but has since turned into something closer to an antihero, meaning that a Venom movie makes the most sense as a starting point for Sony’s Marvel Universe in spite of the character’s often disturbing visuals. It remains to be seen whether Venom will succeed or not, but suffice to say that this is a bold move on the part of Sony to say the least.
What Did Tom Hardy Reveal About Venom?
Recently, Tom Hardy revealed some interesting information about Venom, which matters because he is the one who has been chosen to play the titular character in the upcoming movie. In short, he has stated that Venom will be based on a comic book series called Venom: Lethal Protector, which saw Venom coming to a truce with Spider-Man in exchange for Venom committing no more crimes. However, when Venom relocates to San Francisco, he comes under attack by the father of one of his previous victims, who has hired a team of super-powered mercenaries. However, this is no more than the start of his problems, seeing as how it turned out that the Symbiote is capable of producing offspring. Something that becomes particularly interesting because it has been stated that Venom will be drawing inspiration from a comic book storyline called “Planet of the Symbiotes,” which saw the Earth being invaded by more Symbiotes.
Besides this particular piece of information, it should be mentioned that Hardy was seen filming a fight scene with Scott Haze. However, this raised more questions than it answered because of a simultaneous reveal that Haze wasn’t the one who had been chosen to play Carnage. As a result, there is now a question of how important the fight scene will be, particularly since the participants seemed to have stuck to more traditional forms of fighting. Furthermore, there is a question of who will be playing Carnage if Haze isn’t playing the character, which isn’t helped by initial reports stating that Riz Ahmed would be playing Carnage that were later denied by the people behind the upcoming movie.
Regardless, Venom is expected for October 5, 2018. As a result, there will be more news to support more speculation in the months ahead, which should provide interested individuals with plenty of entertainment over said period of time.
