People who love watching Tom Hanks on the movie screen might be interested to learn that he will be starring on an upcoming movie called Bios. Production on the movie has not started at this point in time, but is expected to start up as soon as the first quarter of 2018, which is when Hanks’s schedule will clear up. As a result, it is not unreasonable to assume that Bios will be coming to the movie theaters in the not so distant future.
What Is Bios?
Bios is Greek for “life.” Not too much information has been released about the upcoming movie, but what has been released makes it clear that the meaning of life will be one of the themes examined within it. After all, Bios is centered around a robot built for the purpose of protecting its creator’s pet dog in a post-apocalyptic Earth, which is important because the creator is dying. In other words, it is a setup designed to tug at the heart strings, particularly since Hanks is the one who will be bringing his considerable expertise and experience as an actor to the role of the dying man.
What Else Do We Know about Bios?
There is a fair amount of information that has been released about the people behind the upcoming movie as well, which might help some of those who are unsure about whether they are interested in it or not to make up their minds on the matter. For starters, it will be produced by Robert Zemeckis and Kevin Misher, while it was written by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell. This should be seen as a positive sign because both Luck and Powell have previous experience with other sci-fi works, which is rather important considering their involvement in something with such extensive sci-fi elements.
With that said, a more eye-catching part might be the fact that Bios will be directed by Miguel Sapochnik. Some people might recognize the name because of his involvement with Game of Thrones, where he was responsible for directing the episode called “The Battle of the Bastards.” Suffice to say that said episode was one of the best-received by the fans of the TV show, so much so that Sapochnik actually went on to win an Emmy for Best Directing. Once again, this is something that should provide people with a measure of confidence in the end product, particularly since Sapochnik has collaborated with Powell on a sci-fi work on a previous occasion.
Finally, it is interesting to note that there was some rather ferocious competition for the project. Amblin Entertainment is the one who emerged as the ultimate winner, but there are reports of serious bids from other parties, with Legendary Entertainment being one such example. Assuming that these reports of ferocious competition are true, this would suggest that there is widespread interest in Bios from the media companies, which in turn, suggests that what has been revealed to them possesses a fair amount of potential in their eyes. Regardless, whether this is true or not, it will be seen as the production of Bios moves forward, which should be happening sooner rather than later.
