That Time Jerry Seinfeld Turned Down The Role of “Turkey #2” on South Park

When Seinfeld was in its heyday you’d be hard pressed to find any show or person making fun of the show.  It was, and still remains one of the most successful and funny sitcoms in the history of television.  But back in 1998 there was another little known show that never really paid much attention to who or what they would be poking fun at.  A show about a small group of kids in Colorado was just beginning to reach star status, and South Park held no prisoners (and still doesn’t) when it came to mockery.

As it turns out, not South Park, but Seinfeld himself offered the show his voiceover services.   When he offered to voice a character on South Park, he later declined after Matt Stone and Trey Parker had only offered him the part of “turkey #2. ”  Yes, this is a true story. In an article written back in 1998:

Still, South Park’s creators got a call from Jerry Seinfeld touting his vocal services. Chef, South Park’s priapic token black, is voiced by Isaac Hayes, and Sparky, Stan’s gay dog, by George Clooney. Jay Leno has done a cameo. Tiger Woods says he wants to. They offered Seinfeld the part of Turkey No 2 in the Christmas special.

I love reading stories like this.   I’m not sure if I like or dislike Seinfeld for making this decision.  I’m pretty neutral on it.  But I will say this.  It makes me like George Clooney that much more.
