Tim Miller Is Officially The Director of Terminator 6

The rights to the Terminator movies will be returning to the creator James Cameron in 2019. When that happens, he plans to make new Terminator movies for the purpose of revitalizing the franchise as a whole. However, Cameron is preoccupied with a number of projects of his own, with an excellent examples being the multiple sequels being planned for Avatar. As a result, he has been seeking someone to help him with Terminator 6.

For some time, it has been reported that Cameron was in discussions with Tim Miller, who is the director of Deadpool. However, the choice had not been confirmed until now, meaning that Miller will indeed be the one to direct Terminator 6. Considering the rather lackluster performance of its immediate predecessors, this will be a sizable burden on his shoulders to say the least.

What Can We Expect from Tim Miller?

Primarily, people will know Miller for his directing on Deadpool. However, that is far from being his first time being involved in a movie, seeing as how he was a visual effects artist before he started directing. For example, Miller had roles as a supervisor of sorts over sequences in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Thor: The Dark World. Furthermore, it should be noted that he performed much the same tasks on a number of video games as well, meaning that he has even more experience with visual effects than what his movie-related experience reveals. As a result, it seems probable that we can expect a gorgeous-looking Terminator 6 from Miller if nothing else, though the success of Deadpool bodes well for the rest of the factors as well.

What Can We Expect from the New Terminator Movies?

More news about the new Terminator movies is expected in the not so distant future. However, there is a fair amount of information that has been released, meaning that there is plenty for interested individuals to mull over. For example, there is the fact that it won’t be a new Terminator movie but rather a number of new Terminator movies, seeing as how Cameron intends for there to be a full trilogy in a rather ambitious move.

Content-wise, the new Terminator movies are supposed to be updated for modern times. However, they will also seek to remain familiar to long-time fans of the franchise, as shown by the fact that Arnold Schwarzenegger will be making a return in Terminator 6. With that said, it is unknown what the balance between these two priorities will be, which is complicated by the fact that we don’t know what parts of Terminator 6‘s immediate predecessors will be considered canon or not.

Ultimately, there isn’t much that can be done at this point in time besides waiting for more news to come out. On the one hand, it is possible that this will turn out well, seeing as how there is plenty of talent backing it up. On the other hand, the last two Terminator movies were supposed to start new trilogies as well, meaning that it remains to be seen whether Terminator 6 will be able to fulfill the expectations placed upon it.
