The Pros and Cons of Making a Wedding Crashers 2

It’s been mentioned before that Wedding Crashers 2 might be a real possibility, but one has to ask ‘why?’ when thinking about how the first movie ended. Both main characters had the women that they wanted the most, they were happy, and things appeared to be headed in the right direction. So why mess with a good thing? At this point, it feels as though the second movie would be chasing the success of the first and would be playing catch-up in a very big way. The idea that Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson would need to play men that are in their 40s and newly single wouldn’t be too much of a stretch, but it would need to explain why they were single since it would also have to deal with the absence of Rachel McAdams and Isla Fisher unless the two were bound to make their way into the movie at some point. That, and the storyline would have to show that the guys either haven’t grown up that much if they’re still crashing weddings and that the ladies might not have appreciated this, even if their habits had changed. Why it feels like a good idea to those involved is kind of a mystery, but if it gets the green light eventually then it’s likely that an explanation of some sort will be given.

Here are just a few pros and cons when it comes to making a Wedding Crashers sequel.

Pros

It might give single guys in their 40s a ray of hope that they can have an active love life.

Hopefully, it wouldn’t inspire more guys in their 40s to simply crash a wedding and see if they can get away with it since that would be awkward, to say the least, but it’s likely that the movie might at least be able to show some guys that are recently divorced or have been single for a while that it’s entirely possible for them to find someone that they can share their life with that won’t be prone to finding someone else. It’s a thin premise to be certain, but the idea of the movie isn’t just about having as much fun as possible without having any long-standing consequences, it’s also about finding that right person that is also looking for that special someone to share their lives with.

The movie could explore the whole idea of Will Ferrell’s character in greater depth.

We didn’t get to see a lot of Chazz until the last part of the movie, but we did get to hear about him on occasion. Maybe the sequel could focus a little more on who Chazz is and why he is the way that he is. Someone made Chazz this way, it’s not enough to think that he just grew up thinking that it would be cool to crash weddings and then funerals (way too creepy) looking for women. The fact that he would pass this ‘knowledge’ on to another person is even worse since it indicates that he has absolutely no remorse for the things he does and is the kind of guy that women still want somehow but is otherwise a sleaze. It’d still be interesting to learn more about him.

Cons

It means that ‘true love’ isn’t as strong as people would like to think it is.

It kind of makes a person ask what the whole point of the first movie was if this is what’s going to happen. Two guys that weren’t looking for true love somehow find true love only to lose true love, so what’s the point? Is it that guys that have been free and not tied down for so long can’t acclimate to a relationship? Or is it just a cash grab that needs a bit of drama to really get going? Right now that’s all it really sounds like since the main premise of the story is that they’re back to their old hijinks, which is what a lot of people might feel when it comes to a Vince Vaughn movie anyway since he doesn’t often do something so incredibly different. No offense to the guy, but taking on more roles that have him playing anything but the big kid in an adult’s body would be nice.

Topping the first movie doesn’t sound possible.

Unless the sequel is moving in on the idea of tragedy and drama that gives way to comedy, no, no it still doesn’t feel as though this movie could possibly top the first. Sequels aren’t necessarily inferior to the first movie, but they definitely get noticed in a much more effective manner when they measure up to the first movie in terms of how effective the story is. Trying to reach that bar again without making the same movie is kind of difficult to imagine at this time.

Maybe this movie should be put on the shelf until people forget about the first one.
