However a person might feel about Ashley Judd’s political attitude should probably be put on hold when they determine whether or not it should really affect her standing in show business since the two can be mutually exclusive. Oh yes, it’s possible to like an actor’s work but not the direction they lean when it comes to their political beliefs, though a lot of folks seem to have some difficulty separating the two. Ashley Judd however is a woman that’s had to fight in order to get this far and at this point the fight seems to have been worth it since she does have a following and a very strong background to pull from now when she decides to use her fame to advantage. Take that however you will, but her performance on screen has become a rather good measure of just how convincing she is while playing a part.
Here are some of the more impressive films from her career.
5. Smoke
There are hubs in just about every neighborhood that manage to service a wide array of humanity that might never get together anywhere else save for that one place, where their interests finally collide in one way or another. The smoke shop in this film is that one place where people tend to congregate in this movie and it’s the one hub of humanity where people seem to be equal in their interests and their manner when it comes to the very different individuals that frequent the place. Judd plays the part of a woman that is being introduced to her father for the first time, though she’s a grown woman and can hardly believe that the man her mother has introduced her to was able to get with her mother.
4. Where the Heart Is
It’s kind of amusing in a fairly awkward way that Novalee doesn’t think she’s good enough for a man and Lexie continually finds the type of man that she’s attracted to but can’t stand. In the end however Novalee finds that she was attracted to the man that professed his love for her the whole time while Lexie marries a man that has a good heart if not a great body and looks, because quite honestly heart is what matters instead of a chiseled body and great appearance. The two women learn a great deal throughout the movie when it comes to relationships and what makes them work, discovering more about themselves as the film finally comes to close.
3. Heat
Sometimes in movies you’ve got to wonder how anyone could ever stay with a criminal when they know that their life expectancy or chances of staying out of prison dwindle with each job they pull. Love is indeed a strange thing since it tends to pull at us in ways we’re not expecting, but in this movie it’s even worse since the relationship between Judd and Kilmer’s characters tends to break down throughout the movie until it’s pretty obvious that no matter how much they love each other it just can’t work. One thing you can say however is that she still cares about him as she warns him off when he comes home, letting him know that it’s not safe to come up thanks to the armed agents that are waiting for him.
2. Kiss the Girls
One thing needs to be clear, anyone that bothers to call themselves something as daring as ‘Casanova’ is the kind of person that’s allowed ego to take the place of common sense. When a kidnapper/killer is on the loose and the police can’t find any real clues leading them to the whereabouts of the victims they appear stumped, until a survivor emerges and changes the game. For Alex Cross though the matter becomes much more personal when his niece is abducted. Against his better judgment he allows the survivor to help out with the case so that they can find the other women that have been taken. It’s a return to the nightmare for her, but one that she seems willing to endure.
1. Double Jeopardy
There’s a little more to the clause than the movie reveals but it is essentially true that you cannot be tried for the same crime twice. That means that in this movie, being charged with the death of her husband means that she goes up for a while no matter that there’s evidence that’s not entirely damning but looks incredibly bad, means that if he’s still alive, she could easily kill him again and not be found guilty. That alone would be motive enough for revenge for many women that were wronged in such a way, but you can just imagine what might happen if there was a kid involved. The only thing you’d have to worry about then would be what you might tell your son when his father is dead and you’re the only one left in their life.
Leave the politics alone when it comes to enjoying a film, that’s usually one of the best ways to do it.
