Nelly came out with a bang when he first hit the scene and kind of cooled off after a while it felt. He’s one of the most successful rap artists in history but at the same time his sound has gone up and down throughout the years as he’s had to compete with many a new voice coming out while his older songs still get a lot of play and are still a lot of fun to hear. He’s been seen to act a few times and has done quite well to be honest, but all the same it also seems as though his routine is in need of a rework now and again to get him back to the top where he was obviously enjoying himself for a while. His allure is still there, his music is still good, but in order to stay on the edge and remain competitive he still needs to keep improving and find ways to identify with and speak to the people that want to listen to him.
Here are a few of his songs as used in TV and film.
5. Hawaii Five-O – Hot In Herre
Some folks actually groaned and rolled their eyes, thinking why this remake would ever be thought up when it’s been so evident lately that reboots, remakes, and the like are getting a rather bad rep since a lot of them don’t produce the way they’re expected to. This show has been able to keep up with its own hype for the most part depending on who you ask, but the whole idea seems like it still belongs in the past and isn’t quite cut out for TV the way it is today. That’s one opinion obviously but at this point a lot of people do happen to like the show and it does feature several individuals that have made it enjoyable.
4. Lip Sync Battle – Dilemma
One great thing about this show is that you never really know who’s going to be lip syncing to which song until they say it. Then you have to just sit back and watch and listen as they do their bit. In some cases it’s easy to be amazed since the level of choreography and props that go into each performance is amazing. For this one Olivia Munn kind of fell back on an oldie but a goodie since she took Nelly’s style from when he first got started and ran with it. The hilarity that comes from it is great enough that the crowd managed to get into the act and of course it was fully enjoyed by those watching at home.
3. Are We There Yet? – Ride Wit Me
There was a time when you wouldn’t think it wise to have Ice Cube around kids, but once he started going family-friendly and leaving his N.W.A. days behind it seemed perfectly okay. Up to a point he was still seen as the violent gangbanger in the movies, a role he never took on in life, but as he got older Cube didn’t exactly go soft, he simply matured and became a much broader-minded individual. The movie does show him as a bit of a player that seems disappointed when he finds out the woman of his dreams has kids, but through a lot of trials and tribulations he gets over that and becomes a family man
2. Bad Boys II – Shake Ya Tailfeather
I’d actually go out on a limb here and say that if it wasn’t better than the first move, Bad Boys II was just as good. It had plenty of moments with Smith and Lawrence that were hilarious and was filled with more than enough action to make it worth watching. The fact that they brought in Gabrielle Union instead of bringing Tea Leoni back wasn’t an issue, but the bad guy was a little overplayed and kind of a stereotype that didn’t work as well as the guy from the first movie. Something about someone that can be quiet and then insanely loud for a split second is just unnerving.
1. The Longest Yard – Boom
This remake was great since it not only featured Nelly but it also featured the late, great Burt Reynolds as well, the man that made this film popular to begin with back in his day. Sandler taking on the role of Paul Crewe was hard to buy in a way, but at the very least he made the film entertaining and the selection process for the players the inmates would use was highly entertaining and even got the adrenaline pumping during those scenes. Along with talents such as Michael Irving, Terry Crewes, and Bill Goldberg, this film was just a lot of fun to watch and didn’t require a lot of thought.
Nelly is still popular without a doubt, and his old songs are still just as awesome.
