The Best Uses of Ice Cube Songs in Movies or TV

O’Shea Jackson, better known as Ice Cube, has had a rather long and impressive career that’s seen him come from simple beginnings to a life that’s seen him gain worldwide recognition. Since his younger days he’s been laying down rhymes in a manner that has spoken to entire generations of people. From his earliest days with the N.W.A. to his solo career and then onto his movie career Ice Cube has been one of the most influential rappers around and has gone from being hardcore to being more family-oriented while still keeping his edge and his overwhelming popularity. He’s definitely had his ups and downs throughout the years but he’s always come surging back in a way that reminds his loyal fans just how awesome he truly is. For those that were born after his hardcore days he’s still someone that’s easy to enjoy since his music, both back then and now, has been nothing short of amazing.

Here are just a few of his best songs as seen in TV and movies.

5. Friday – Friday

Hands down this is one of the best movies he’s ever done and is one of the most memorable. Craig is just trying to get through another Friday after somehow getting fired on his day off. His father is riding him about getting a job and even talking about kicking him out of the house, his friend Smokey is trying to get him high for the first time, and the dealer that Smokey works for is threatening their lives if he doesn’t get his money. On top of that is the neighborhood drama that’s going on in every direction as well as the issue that Craig has with the neighborhood bully. It might seem tragic but it’s made into a comedy that’s lasted the test of time so far. And you know this…man!

4. Office Space – Down for Whatever

To think that anyone spends this much time in a cubicle every day and enjoys it is kind of hard to imagine, but Peter, Michael, and Samir are three guys that have a plan to turn their office upside down and in the process take control of their lives. The only problem with this is that they’re office workers, not criminal masterminds. While they know the system and how to get in and out of it they’re not entirely confident enough to really pull it off in an efficient and low-key manner. If you’ve ever worked in an office environment though you’d probably get a kick out of this since it might bring back a few memories.

3. Higher Learning – Higher

College is supposed to be the best years of a young person’s life, but there are moments in time when it’s been a tense and less than safe environment when racial and societal tensions became issues that people found difficult to navigate. In this movie the students that are highlighted are those that have vastly different ideologies and very different life experiences and are thrown together in a school that is dedicated to higher learning but isn’t about to coddle anyone when it comes to their well-being. One thing that most people don’t seem to realize about college is that if you want to be comfortable with others, you need to be comfortable with yourself.

2. Boyz N The Hood – How to Survive In South Central

Life on the streets in some neighborhoods doesn’t promise a long and healthy existence for everyone. This movie was something that came out and showed people in its own way just what was going on in the ‘hood and what the people were facing on a continual basis. It might have been glamorized or even toned down in various spots but it was still an accounting of the lives that are affected by the constant day to day happenings that went on during this time and are still said to go on in this day and age. While things have definitely changed this movie is still remembered and very prized among a lot of fans.

1. Straight Outta Compton – Straight Outta Compton

There are those that would gladly point out the inaccuracies that were seen in this film,  but there are still more that have shown a lot of appreciation for the fact that it was brought to light in any way. The N.W.A. was one of the most listened to groups during their time and one of those that was considered as raw as they could be as they made a concentrated effort to bring their experiences to the people. One of the best things about this film is the fact that Ice Cube’s son actually played his role after earning it. And to be honest he nailed it and did his father and the entire history of the group proud in many ways.

Ice Cube is still awesome to this day.Office Space
