It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since Evanescence came on the scene, but the rock band that formed in Little Rock, Arkansas, has definitely gone through some changes in that time. The band has gotten ride of a few members and taken on others as time has gone on, but one among them, Amy Lee, has been the rock that the group has centered around. Her hauntingly beautiful voice has been the reason why a lot of people have come to love this band and have followed them throughout the years. On a personal note her voice is after all one of the defining features that makes the band and is strong enough to capture just about anyone as they sit enraptured, wondering just how in the world anyone can possess such an unearthly and beautiful voice and still be of this world.
Here are a few of their songs as heard in TV and movies.
5. Evanescence – Going Under
There’s no denying that the band is something harder than just rock but not quite at the same level as hard rock. Their sound is enough to bang your head to but it’s also melodic enough that you can stand and listen with rapt attention as Amy Lee opens her mouth and delivers one line after another, her voice rising and falling with the music as she pushes forth each note, allowing it to flow in a way that feels like a charge of electricity passing from her vocal cords to the ears of the audience. Standing in awe of this woman and the band that supports her is quite easy as you fall into the music without any effort.
4. Daredevil – Bring Me to Life
According to a lot of fans there wasn’t a lot about this film that was worth talking about since it wasn’t exactly Ben Affleck’s shining moment in movies. From the outfit to the acting to, well, just about everything the movie was kind of a flop, but the music was awesome and Elektra’s training scene was intense as Amy Lee’s voice was allowed to bust out as she was slicing through targets one after the other. In fact it seems safe to say that this scene was one of the best in the entire movie, though amazingly, and criticize if you must, Bullseye’s scenes were actually kind of entertaining.
3. Underworld: Awakening – Made of Stone
It does need to be said that some people thought that Underworld, the first movie, was going to be it since it didn’t seem to have a lot of ability to follow through with anything else, despite the fact that the lycan blood pooling into the crypt of the other elder was seen to change him. It still seemed like a thin premise as it was one that could keep going and going until it was finally run dry, which it’s in very serious danger of doing if the creators decide to make another film. But at the very least they’ve stuck with Kate Beckinsale for the movies since she was the central character after all.
2. The Tudors – Lacrymosa
The Tudors is set around the life of Henry VIII, who was seemingly known for a great number of things, one of those being his pursuit of Anne Boleyn. The show goes on about how he wanted so badly to marry Anne that he took nearly every measure he could even when he was stymied by those that were supposed to be allies and closer to him than anyone. Henry however did what he pleased quite often, even if it mean the ruination of those around him and the continued vexing of those that were determined to see him follow the rules and traditions of his own country. It was kind of an interesting show to be honest.
1. WWE No Way Out – Bring Me to Life
WWE is known for bringing in great talent and utilizing their sounds in order to get the people pumped. If I’m being honest this is one of the first times that I experienced this band and I was hooked in an instant. Listening to Amy Lee sing is almost like an addiction in a way, once you hear her it becomes necessary to hear her again and again until you feel sated. Seeing them live and in person is even more impressive since their concerts are something great to be enjoyed and admired. Evanescence did take a brief break from 2012 to 2015 after a long tour as they needed to wrap their heads around the business once again. Thankfully they came back and have been quite successful since.
Any band that cites bands and singers like Nirvana and Tori Amos as some of their influences is going to have a definite hard-hitting and addictive sound that people are going to love. To this date Evanescence fans are still loyal and will tend to show up at sold out concerts.
