Usually a person develops a stage name to replace their regular name, but Arnold George Dorsey decided to select a name that doesn’t roll off the tongue so much as clunks and pushes its way forward before kind of falling off the tip to fall wherever it may. That being said, the name Engelbert Humperdinck is in fact something that kind of sticks with you no matter that it might be pushed to the side now and again. He’s been one of the most popular ‘middle of the road’ performers for so many years that forgetting about him isn’t really possible since when you go from low to high on the scale of performers you’re bound to run into him once or twice and be reminded that he does have quite the interesting career behind him. The whole name change thing was something that’s rather common, but usually in the opposite direction.
Here are some of his songs as put to TV and movies.
5. Game Night – Quando, Quando, Quando
Sometimes game night can go a bit too far, especially when you have a guy in your group that actually does participate in illegal deals with black market items. When Brooks’ life is in real danger however it’s hard to tell since the whole roleplaying idea is something that can confuse people if they really think that this is supposed to be happening. It takes Max getting shot in the arm to really wake everyone up however as the real bullets causing the real blood are enough to clue people into the fact that Brooks is involved in some pretty shady stuff. By the end however things are finally starting to calm down, until you see the guys outside the house with guns that are moving ever closer.
4. Engelbert Humperdinck – After the Lovin’
You Were Never Really Here is the kind of movie that could revive a career or keep it right where it is, so perhaps Joaquin Phoenix’s career is now on an upward climb back to the top, or perhaps he’s going to be remembered in a manner that paints him as a great actor but not someone that’s really eager for the spotlight any longer. He had an awesome career at one time and was one of the most well-known individuals in Hollywood. But despite being a great actor he’s kind of slipped into the background with movies like this in the past several years. It doesn’t mean he’s slipped as an actor though, as he’s still great.
3. Sharp Objects – Can’t Take My Eyes Off You
When a reporter that has a history of self-harm and abuse returns home to cover a story she has to undergo the challenge of facing her own personal demons while she’s there and a mother that is anything but nurturing as well. This is the kind of situation that if anyone ever finds themselves in it they might want to turn around and go the other way, but the importance of standing your ground and learning to deal with said demons is that running from them only gives them power, while standing and facing them might break you, but it at least gives the impression that you’re no longer letting them rule you.
2. 10 Things I Hate About You – Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You
There are some individuals in this world that are difficult just because and don’t intend to change. Kat is perhaps one of the most angry and difficult people in school, but she has her reasons and those are revealed later on. She’s so anti-everything it seems that getting her to fall in love so that her younger sister Bianca can date might be impossible, but when Patrick finally gets her to open up she decides to take a chance and fall head over heels for him. Despite being paid to take her out initially Patrick falls in love with her as well and by the end of the movie they end up together, as do Bianca and Cameron.
1. Love Boat – If You Love Me, Really Love Me
Engelbert could croon in his day and he still can to be honest, though he’s well into his 80s and there’s no doubt that there are times when his advanced age might take a bit of a toll on him. He’s still one of those performers that inspires a lot of people and manages to show that you can be successful if you just try, try, and try again. The fact that he’s been kind of a moderate talent for so long could be attributed to the fact that he’s more of a pop singer than anything, and the genre has been filled throughout the years with those trying to make a name for themselves.
Unlike many others though, his name stands out just as much now as it always did.
