Cochran is the new mastermind at Savaii, while Brandon’s paranoia hits new heights. He thinks Albert, Mikayla and Sophie are moving against Coach and Brandon.
OK, I know Brandon isn’t his uncle, but I am already tired of the Brandon show. I understand that what he is doing out there is dramatic, and confrontational, and whatever, but we still haven’t had more than one Albert confessional. Similarly, we haven’t heard boo from Edna, Whitney, Rick or really Elyse either. Yes, this happens every season, but for whatever reason, Brandon is annoying me more than other players who have had the spotlight early in seasons past.
As far was what will happen next, over at Savaii, though Cochran will try to maneuver against Ozzy and his alliance, I can’t see Keith and Whitney wanting to turn on Ozzy yet. There are still too many tribal Challenges remaining to eliminate the strongest player on the tribe. For whatever reason, I feel Savaii will win the next Immunity Challenge, so though Cochran will get his wheels spinning, it will be for naught. Over at Upolu, I just can’t imagine Brandon lasts too much longer. Yes, they will oust Stacey before the younger, stronger Brandon, but I think Coach knows he needs to stay in his tribe’s good graces as he is still a major target. If amongst the rest of Coach’s alliance the winds start prevailing against Brandon, I have to believe Coach will cut his losses.
Some may think that when obvious players are voted out at the beginning of the season that means that season of Survivor is boring or not good. I beg to differ. So far, I’ve been thoroughly entertained by this season through its first three episodes. The Challenges have been new and interesting; Ozzy and Coach have been a plus; the newbies have some interesting characters; and the return of water Challenges (which are always welcome). Yes, Brandon is getting on my nerves, but the only real downside of lower tier players being voted off first is that my Odds to Win don’t change very much. There was a bit of movement thanks to the Brandon-Mikayla tete a tete, but otherwise, not much. Let’s, for this week only (unless you all like this), take a more erudite look at how the contestants are doing with a little…haiku! (Why? I’m not sure, but why the heck not, right?)
Albert: 3-1.
It’s so far so good
Smooth talker has the numbers
Muscles good ’til Merge
Whitney: 9-2.
Second alliance?
Keith trusts her, and won’t take heat
For soon betrayal
Keith: 6-1.
Smart player to look
Past Ozzy’s awesomeness, but
Might overplay hand?
Edna: 8-1.
Disliked “Asians good
At puzzles” belief. But true!
Upolu swing vote
Mikayla: 12-1.
Still incredible
Unwanted spotlight. Ne’er good.
Brandon should go first
Dawn: 15-1.
Great job at Challenge
Still on block behind Cochran?
Needs Oz protection
Rick: 17-1.
Strong, stoic cowboy
Safe in alliance. Coming
Coach clash though? Perhaps
Sophie: 23-1.
Big jump for Sophie
Still irksome, but has Brandon
Pinned. Time for big move?
Ozzy: 29-1.
Ne’er tell about Idol!
Savaii lost ‘nother member
Now maybe backstab?
Jim: 32-1.
Nothing redeeming
Big mouth, unlikeable, but
Safe ’cause of numbers
Coach: 41-1.
‘Slayer in control
Upolu in his thrall. Still
Won’t sniff Final Four
Elyse: 52-1.
Simply eye candy.
Hasn’t done anything. Could
Just be editing?
Brandon: 59-1.
Whole mental breakdown
Largest target on his tribe
Coach, don’t keep safe, please!
John: 83-1.
Promised renaissance
As Savaii chief schemer? Fool
Me once, and so on
Christine: 197-1.
Really nice Duel win
Has toughness. Needs miracle
Quite long road ahead
Stacey: 245-1.
Even with Brandon’s
Target, Stacey next to go
Not Challenge asset
Mark-Anthony: 999-1.
Surprising vote? Nah.
Any chance against Christine?
Buh-bye Papa Bear
That’s it for this week’s episode of Survivor. What did you think of the episode? Have you had enough Brandon for this season? Are you surprised that Coach has integrated himself so smoothly into his tribe? Do you think Ozzy was smart to tell Keith about the HII? Was Keith smart to pass that info on to Whitney? Did you like the haiku, or do you feel you’ve been cheated of analysis? (Sorry if you feel the latter. I figure three years in, I’d try something new. Seriously, if you hated that, just let me know.) Please leave your questions and comments below. I’ll be back next week with another recap. Until then, I’m off to return with a conspicuous bulge in my underpants (sorry, it was too easy).

LOL. Survivor haiku! Thanks for the recap/analysis Mike. I agree I'm mostly enjoying the season so far. I loved, loved, loved seeing a water challenge again though I really want some swimming too. And right now neither team seems particularly dominant so it makes it feel very competitiony. Things I dislike – Too much Brandon. Please producers, I do not care at all about his messed up head and conflicts and the crying? Gah. I got up and did something else. And Ozzy? Why so dumb? He totally needs a Yul. I think it was a big mistake to tell John about the idol but then I do not expect Ozzy to pull a Rob. Lastly so glad to see Semhar exit stage left though I have to admit I absolutely adored all the WTF faces and rolling eyes at her "poetry".
