In 2002, I switched ( like most of us) from film to digital photography. It was revolutionary but after a while I started to dislike the whole process – making a lot of pictures, becoming a bit sloppy and all adjustments in Photoshop. It somehow didn’t challenge me anymore, it all became too predictable. So I made the switch to one of the most challenging kinds of photography, a wet plate photography.
It’s a joy working with old wooden camera’s and handmade antique brass lenses. Going back to the very basics of Photography. I started making portraits (which I occasionally still do) for my series “Creative Minds”.
From cleaning the glass, making the plate sensitive, developing and fixing – everything has to be done on the spot. For making a single plate, my station wagon is completely filled with materials.
