Stranger Things, a Netflix original series created and ran by the Duffer Brothers, is experiencing massive success as it enters into season three. However, there have been rumors floating around that season three will be the final season for the Duffer Brothers, which has obviously created a bit of concern as fans wonder how the absence of these two talented brothers will impact the direction and creativity of the show.
While no one is quite sure how the rumor got started, publication media began to leak the information several days ago. The announcement that the Duffer brothers came as a shock and sent the media savvy fans scrambling for answers. As it stood when the rumors first surfaced, the Duffer brothers would supervise the entire season three and then they would step down. Basically, the initial release of the information never suggested that the Duffer Brothers were jumping ship and abandoning the show or Netflix. The initial release basically stated that it would be necessary for the Duffer brothers to step down from their show-running responsibilities in order to begin their work on new projects for Netflix. The brothers will remain on with the current project as executive producers
It is also possible that circumstances could change between now and the end of the third season that might require the brothers to continue on as showrunners. While that would not be the best scenario, we all know that things happen in this business that requires the ability to make adjustments on the fly and no one doubts that Netflix nor the Duffer brothers will have a problem in this area.
The truth is that what is being done here is not uncommon. Before J.J. Abrams moved into the world of feature films he often passed off his creations to others once they achieved a certain level of success – allowing him to move on to other projects. Speaking of feature films, there is another rumor that the Duffer Brothers are in negotiations with at least one Hollywood studio to direct a feature film.
