James Comey was thrust into the news again this week. Looks like as a society we’re going to have to start dealing with the fact that politicians in the news are pretty much the same thing as celebrities announcing pregnancies. Honestly, it’s really that pathetic. The news story that broke this week actually goes back to last July when Comey was still the acting FBI director. In the middle of the election Comey held a press conference to announce the FBI had found no criminal conduct in Hillary Clinton email investigation but that she had been a very very bad secretary of state.
Until now, no one knew why Comey did it. The Washington Post reports that Comey based his decision on a Russian document viewed within the FBI as unreliable and possibly a fake. It appears that Comey literally fell for fake news. Apparently the Russians sent the FBI a fake intelligence report about Attorney General Loretta Lynch assuring the Clinton campaign that the email investigation would not push too deeply.
