Last night on The Late Show, Stephen Colbert, of course, had to talk about Donald Trump and the Republican candidate’s attempt to defend the comments he’s made about women in the past. Trump has specifically been trying to rationalize why he referred to 1996 Miss Universe winner, Alicia Machado, as “Miss Piggy” and other degrading names.
“Now, these comments could really hurt Trump with the small, special interest group of Americans who gain weight,” Colbert joked.
However, the Late Show host quickly pivoted away from Trump after discussing those comments during his monologue last night and turned his attention to Elon Musk, who, this week, laid out his plan to send people to Mars by 2022. Colbert talked about it’s been a childhood dream of his to travel to space, and he’s incredibly excited to finally have the opportunity to do so. That was, at least, until he saw the price tag of the trip to Mars, which is expected to be around $10 billion per person.
$10 billion for a trip to Mars is obviously going to be way too much money to spend for every regular person in the world. Only the richest billionaires will be able to pay that much for a trip to space, and one of the billionaires that seemingly has enough money to do so is Donald Trump, who has repeatedly told voters during his campaign that he has $10 billion.
“Elon Musk wants Donald Trump off the planet,” Colbert said, before putting on a “Make Mars Great Again” hat and suggesting that he would help raise money to send Trump away if the Republican candidate wouldn’t pay for the trip himself.
