Now that Donald Trump is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Stephen Colbert is spending even more time on The Late Show trying to figure out the Donald’s appeal to certain voters. Last night on the late night show, Colbert discussed Trump’s latest speech to coal miners in West Virginia, in which the presidential candidate had some interesting things to say about coal mining, hairspray, and voting in the upcoming primary.
As Colbert points out in the video below, Donald Trump is the only Republican candidate left in the field, which makes today’s primary in West Virginia a very different one than we’ve seen over the past couple of months. Since he’s the only Republican left, Trump seems to be more sure than ever that he’ll become president. In fact, he even told voters in West Virginia to stay home during the primary and to “save your vote for the general election.”
“Forget this one,” Trump told voters. “The primary’s gone.”
In addition to his thoughts on voting, Trump also had some interesting scientific comments as well. After wearing the coal mining helmet that was given to him by the West Virginian miners, who have officially endorsed him, he joked that he needed some hairspray before mentioning that people couldn’t use hairspray anymore because of how it destroys the o-zone. But that type of hairspray, Aqua Net, was banned back in 1978.
“So Trump has been mad about hairspray for 38 years,” Colbert joked. “To put that into perspective, a woman born in 1978 would have been married and divorced from Donald Trump by now.”
