To absolutely no one’s surprise a sequel to Star Wars: Rogue One has been announced with Felicity Jones and Diego Luna coming back as Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor. Rogue One saw tremendous success at the box office as well as critical acclaim as the first successful Star Wars spinoff. Because of Rogue One, new spinoffs are in development including a solo Han Solo movie. Just yesterday we heard rumors that an Obi-Wan spinoff might be in the works with Ewan Mcgregor to star. Late Friday, Disney made the announcement. Here’s what it said:
The Rebellion continues! StarWars.com is pleased to announce that development has begun on a Rogue One sequel. The Star Wars story team isn’t ready to share exactly what they have in store or when the Rogue One sequel will arrive in theaters but fans attending Star Wars Celebration 2017 might keep their eyes peeled for an early tease! But… we can confirm that Felicity Jones and Diego Luna will reprise their roles as Jyn Erso and Cassian Andor! The untitled Rogue One sequel joins an exciting slate of new adventures in the Galaxy Far, Far Away coming to fans in the coming years. We can’t wait to share more info with you.
Plot details are very hush hush right now but fans will be all over trying to decipher what the sequel will be about. There’s also a contingent of fans who might not like the idea of another Rogue One as some felt the ending of Rogue One was seen as a poignant moment in Star Wars lore and a fitting conclusion to the individual arcs of its main characters. Bringing back Jyn and Cassian, despite their popularity might prove challenging.
