Team Scorpion gets blackmailed by MI6 to take out a U.N ambassador in this week’s episode of Scorpion. The team meets Chief Olivia Cromwell, Director of British Intelligence, and Agent Ian Gleason from MI6, the British version of the CIA, or as Toby aptly phrased it, CIA but with crumpets (I was kind of hoping to see M and 007 himself come into the garage, but beggars can’t be choosers). The team is tasked with apprehending Jonas Madaky, Ambassador to the U.S from the African nation of Buritan, whose title has been achieved via bribes so that he could travel with diplomatic immunity and avoid prosecution for any crimes that are committed. Madaky is speaking before the General Assembly at the UN to request financial aid to his native land, but the speech is a cover for Madaky to meet with Suuto Ali, a delegate from Tesopo. In reality, Madaky is a gunrunner who supplies banned weaponry to war-torn countries that enlist child soldiers to do their bidding. It’s saddening that third world countries in Africa and Latin America are still dealing with situations like this.
Team Scorpion then heads to the UN building with Agent Gleason in tow. I have to admit, having Paige wear a fake pregnant stomach to smuggle in the fake hands to be used to fool the hand scans at UN security stations was genius. The timing in which Happy pulled the plug on the body scanner in order to let Paige through was perfect. I also liked the scene where Toby asked Ray to be his mobile translator, as the former steps in for the real translator for Ambassador Marik Kaluza of Poland. It was surprising that Ray knew how to speak Polish and translate each phrase almost perfectly so that Toby didn’t screw up and get himself in hot water. Kudos to Ray!
The mission begins to take a turn for the worst when it is revealed that Agent Gleason turned on Team Scorpion, saying that he’s not here to act as a linguist but to assassinate Ambassador Madaky. My eyes went wide when Agent Gleason’s accent changed from Colin Firth to Jason Statham after he killed the guard stationed in the basement of the UN. Talk about a major double-cross.
When the makeshift bomb that Walter had Happy made didn’t explode on time, I had a feeling that things were about to get worse, and they did. Turns out that Chief Cromwell is working with Madaky, and she wants to kill him so that the profits that they generate will be hers alone. Greed amongst thieves is so predictable as people will do anything to get the biggest share of whatever is being divided. At least both Madaky and Cromwell are arrested in the end for what they have done. I would also like to applaud Walter for hacking into Madaky’s offshore bank accounts and donating the money to charities in war-torn countries.
Throughout the UN mission, it seems that Megan is not doing as well as Walter had hoped. The genius goes against his sister’s wishes to not be intubated and gets a court order that lets him have control over Megan’s medical decisions. I know that Walter wants his sister to be cured of the disease that’s plaguing her, but he should’ve listened to Sylvester when he told him that having the intubation tubes stuck down Megan’s throat causes her unbearable pain. I’m glad that Sylvester was able to find a way around Walter’s court order and got Ray, who happens to be an Internet ordained Minister, to marry him and Megan so that the human calculator can have a say without Walter there to stop him. It would have been nice to see the impromptu wedding ceremony, as Sylvester exchange vows with Megan, but it’s still a tender moment for the two of them nonetheless. Walter is then able to come to terms with what Sylvester has done and decides to let his sister be while he works on a way to save her life.
This was yet another great episode of Scorpion. I laughed when Toby threatened to punch Ray for all the language lingo that the latter was throwing around, and my heart went to Megan as she pleaded Sylvester to not let her be put on intubation ever again. The scene where Agent Gallo spoke with an Italian accent was amusing. Guess someone was watching too much of The Godfather. I also wonder where Agent Gleason disappeared off to when Walter was telling him to leave before the police arrived, but a good MI6 agent never reveals that particular secret, right, Mr. Bond?
