Saoirse Ronan is an American and Irish actress who was born in New York City on April 12, 1994. She began her acting career in 2003 as a child actress when she appeared in the television series ‘The Clinic’. She made her film debut in the 2007 film ‘I Could Never Be Your Woman’. During her successful career, she has had leading roles in many high-profile movies and has won many awards for her performance. Here are the top five Saoirse Ronan movies of her career.

1. Lady Bird

Arguably her best move to date was the 2017 comedy-drama coming-of-age film ‘Lady Bird‘. This film was written and directed by Greta Gerwig and also starred Laurie Metcalf, Tracy Letts, Lucas Hedges, and Timothee Chalamet. In this film, Saoirse Ronan plays the lead role of Christine ‘Lady Bird’ McPherson. The film was nominated for five Academy Awards and three BAFTAs. Ronan won the Golden Globe for Best Actress- Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. This was a low-budget film made on $10 million and it grossed $75.7 million at the worldwide box office.

2. Atonement

‘Atonement’ was Ronan’s third film role and she appeared in this in the same year as her film debut. It is a romantic war drama film that was based on the novel of the same name by Ian McEwan. The screenplay was written by Christopher Hampton and the film was directed by Joe Wright. The film grossed $129 million against a budget of $30 million and won one Oscar, two BAFTAs and a Golden Globe Award. Ronan played Briony Tallis, the younger sister of the lead female, which was played by Keira Knightley. Others who starred in this movie included James McAvoy, Romola Garai, Vanessa Redgrave, Harriet Walter, and Patrick Kennedy.

3. Brooklyn

‘Brooklyn’ is a 2015 romantic drama film that is based on the novel of the same name by Colm Toibin. The screenplay was written by Nick Hornby and the film was directed by John Crowley. Saoirse Ronan plays the lead role of Eilis Lacey, a young Irish woman who immigrates to Brooklyn and falls in love. It won the BAFTA Award for Best British Film. Others who starred in this film included Domhnall Gleeson, Emory Cohen, Jim Broadbent, and Julie Walters.

4. The Grand Budapest Hotel

‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ is a comedy film told in a narrative style that is based on a story by Wes Anderson and Hugo Guinness. This 2014 film was written and directed by Wes Anderson. Ronan plays the role of Agatha, a young chef who falls in love with the bell-boy Zero and helps him and the hotel’s concierge to hide a painting. Also starring in this film were Ralph Fiennes, F. Murray Abraham, Matthieu Amalric, and Adrien Brody. The movie grossed $174.8 million against a budget of $25 million.

5. The Lovely Bones

Saoirse Ronan played the lead character and narrator Suzie Salmon in this 2009 supernatural drama film. It was directed by Peter Jackson who also co-wrote this movie with Phillipa Boyens and Fran Walsh. The film starred Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weisz Imperioli. This film is based on the novel of the same name by Alice Sebold and is about a young girl who was murdered but continues to watch her family after her death. It was nominated for numerous awards.
