General Hospital fans know that most people don’t last a lifetime (We are clearly not talking to you Sonny or Laura) on the air. They come, they go, and they make us remember their stories in the most amazing way over the years. When a character is done with the show, we don’t always care. But sometimes, one comes in and does such a stellar job at the character that we feel we miss them so much. Over the years Port Charles has lost people we love. People we hate. People we don’t get. They’ve all lost something, and it’s all been something special. But there is one in 2018 that sticks out a bit more than others. This character wasn’t one that was around for decades. She wasn’t even a character we actually even liked. She was someone who we just dealt with, but she was amazing. And that was Nelle. Why did Chloe Lanier leave? Well, we will tell you.
She Made the Decision
There was never a moment in which Lanier didn’t tell us she was leaving at the end of her contract. She never had any intention on staying longer than her two years. She knew that as a young actress, she wanted to challenge herself in other roles and bring about a positive change in her life as she saw fit. She is not someone who has any desire to stick around in one place too long. She signed on to play the role for two years. She was good at it, and she won and was nominated for Emmys for her role.
There was never any drama behind the scenes, as so many people like to report. She simply decided not to extend or renew her contract, and she made that clear from the beginning. She’s very good friends with her on-screen nemesis, Carly, in real life, and they are very close. They are great friends on and off the show, and she has the same relationship with the rest of her former co-workers.
Fans Didn’t Like Her
It is not a big secret that fans did not like Nelle. She was never a girl who found a way to make sure we wanted to be her friend. She was never someone who made us sit back and think that we have to do something we don’t want to do. She’s not someone who wants to spend her time focusing on things that don’t work. And she’s not someone who wanted to get her life in order in any other way. She was not happy about the way things went, and she continued to spiral out of control to try and get things to go her way.
But that’s what worked. She was so good at her job that the fans did hate her, because she was a hateful and awful character. The fact that fans did not like her is a good thing. It only made those Emmys more of a solid foundation for her. She was so good at being so bad that fans hated her for being so good at being so bad. It was amazing to us that fans thought she was out because of a lack of fan support.
She Could Be Back
While the actress is moving on to play other roles and take on other jobs, she might be back one day. It is entirely possible she might be able to come back to this role one day in the future and make things more interesting. We certainly don’t know this for certain and we don’t know if there is a chance she might come back sometime in the near future, but we do think there is a chance she might show up one day and act like the same woman she already is. And that would be amazing. Until then, though, she is going to work on other projects, she is going to change her own life, and she is going to see what else she can do as an actress to change the way the game is played. She’s going to do big things.
