The rumor as of right now is that there are multiple Star Trek scripts that are being written by different writers. It’s not much of a surprise that there are multiple writers for a franchise like Star Trek since the undertaking of such a massive project couldn’t be done by just one person. The only problem with this is the fact that some of them don’t seem to know what the others are doing and this could seriously skew the time line if the producers and the studio wanted to go ahead with all of them. It’s easy to think that the studio would sort out any inconsistencies and would possibly work to meld them all together, or would find a way to describe how time travel is going to bend and warp reality yet again.
That really seems to be the way to go in Star Trek anymore it seems since the idea that using time travel as a means of completely rebooting the franchise has become the ultimate manner by which the story can keep going. It kind of feels like a cop out at times but so far it’s done just enough to set a stage that’s still being filled. The only problem is that for Star Trek fans it’s not being filled with anything all that useful as of yet. The last couple of films were filled with inconsistencies and technical errors that many upon many fans gladly pointed out and even foamed at the mouth about, metaphorically of course, when discussing certain plot points in their various forums. Let’s just say that fans were not happy about everything that went into the last couple of films, and they’re waiting for an apology in the form of a great Star Trek film like those that used to come out every so often back in the day.
There’s only one problem. Well there are a few but one glaring error seems to stand out at the moment. Not a single writer is going to be likely to agree that their course shouldn’t be the one that should be followed. Now you could easily argue that this shouldn’t matter, that all of the films should be able to fit the time line, but when you’ve got Simon Pegg, who’s actually been IN the movies and is writing one even now, submitting a script and then Quentin Tarantino submitting another script, this one R-rated by the way, there seems to be a huge gap between the two that needs to be solved quickly so that the next film can be put into production and people can focus on something other than why Star Trek seems to be so quiet in the face of its rival, Star Wars, having come out with several movies to its one or two as of late. The fans want their franchise back, and at this point they might accept just about anything.
Of course if they accept Tarantino’s version then things might take an interesting turn.
