I’m not all that sure about Robot Chicken, especially now. They’re worst of the Empire series seems to be pulled from a kind of fantasy that makes sense in some regards and yet falls short in others. There’s a definite reason I don’t watch Adult Swim but a lot of others seem to enjoy it so hey, to each their own. Some folks really do get into everything it has to offer and I’ve no doubt that it can be pretty funny.
But let’s see. Faking being choked by Darth Vader. It’s a nice parody but in that universe where the Force is very real despite not being believed in by anyone but the Jedi or the Sith and the few people that believe in them during the original trilogy, it’s not entirely feasible. For one dressing up like someone else wouldn’t necessarily be the best idea simply because it wouldn’t stop Vader from choking them again, and again, and again. And once he’s done with that out comes the lightsaber to dispense some rather final and unmistakable punishment. It is funny to think that enough people would be able to pull this on the dark lord of the Sith to make it possible for such a training course.
Then the call to stand down seems really unlikely if you’ve ever read the books or followed the line of the movies. Just because the Death Star was blown up and the emperor killed doesn’t mean the thousands of ships still operated by the Empire would be willing to back down. Sure you cut the head off but the rest of the body is still able to pull together. It’s like tearing a hunk off of a T-1000 from the Terminator, it’s going to regroup and hit you even harder now that you’re considered an identifiable threat. Besides even in the current canon the Empire eventually became the First Order, which was basically another Empire under a different name. Snoke is still a mysterious being but he’s likely no Palpatine, and Kylo is no Vader.
As for the Empire on Ice, oy. Everyone’s got their thing, I get it. But this is beyond silliness for the sake of being silly. Honestly it felt like something that might have come out of a session in which the writers were imbibing something a little heavier than caffeine. No one can say that their ideas aren’t amusing or even hilarious in some regards but maybe it’s a brand of humor that has a definite an acquired taste to it that I’m just not getting. Even diehard Star Wars fans should be able to laugh at these to be honest.
Star Wars has endured all kinds of humor levied against it and just for fun. There’s nothing personal about it and nothing to get bent out of shape about since all of it is just an expression of one person’s sense of humor shown in a definitely fun way. Still, the Empire on Ice, all I can say is oy.
