RED Writing Team Will Script a Dave Bautista Action Comedy

It looks like the same writers that were responsible for RED and it’s sequel will be putting their heads together to come up with a scrip for a movie that will star Dave Bautista. The film will be an action comedy that should be able to take advantage of Bautista’s innate sense of comedy and his sheer physicality. Having been in the WWE for a while and having cemented his appearance as Drax the Destroyer it seems Bautista should be able to step into such a role without much difficulty, if any. Since his role in Guardians of the Galaxy his reputation has been soaring higher than ever, possibly higher than it did in the WWE, but that’s questionable.

Right now though he’s a hot commodity since he’ll be starring in Avengers: Infinity War as well, putting yet another mark on his resume that will be noted later on down the line. The writers, John and Erich Hoeber, will be making use of their ability to instill comedy and action into an engaging film so that Bautista can step into the role as easily as he did with Drax. Unlike the destroyer however he’ll be playing an experienced and hardened CIA agent that has to protect a family with a very precocious 9-year old that he’ll have to contend with. This almost sounds like something that might have been seen with the movie First Kid or The Pacifier. The unfortunate part about that is the fact that neither movie did that well and the reputation of both stars that were in the movies kind of suffered as a result.

The difference is that First Kid starred Sinbad, whose career was just about over anyway, and Vin Diesel from The Pacifier bounced back pretty easily by getting back into the Fast and the Furious movies. However, Bautista doesn’t have anything to really bounce back into if the film flops except for another Guardians of the Galaxy movie, which is already in talks it would seem. He’s not a bad actor really, but movies that are believed to be something that’s going to be great unfortunately do have the risk of tanking if the writers don’t take care to really pay attention who they’re writing for and take into account their own capabilities. In truth some people thought that Drax the Destroyer would be something that might drag the GotG down and become an embarrassingly bad character. In the comics he’s kind of a doofus, just as he is in the movies, but thankfully Bautista came through and provided people with a character that nothing short of brilliant. That he’s an intelligent man there’s no doubt, but whether he could really act was still in question. He’s proven that he can in a great way, but he’s also shown that he can adapt to a role in such a way that he makes it believable.

So maybe he’ll do alright and the movie will be something solid, but until then let’s hope for the sake of his career that the writers take into account what he’s done and what he can do.
