Reality TV shows like Love Island and Love & Marriage: Huntsville have always served up a steamy cocktail of drama, romance, and entertainment. Their eccentric storylines and charismatic contestants have kept us glued to our screens for years. But lately, the contestants of these shows have been making headlines for all the wrong reasons — arrests!

From risky investments to domestic violence, these reality stars’ off-screen lives are proving to be just as eventful as what we see on TV. In this article, we’ll break down the charges brought against these stars and the details of the arrests. So, without further ado, here’s why so many reality TV show contestants are getting arrested.

Multiple Reality TV Show Contestants Charged for Promoting Risky CFD Investments

First up, we have a whole bunch of reality show stars facing charges for promoting a risky investment scheme. They were pushing CFDs, a high-risk financial product in which 80% of the investors ended up losing money. These celebs got paid to promote an Instagram account, @holly_fxtrends, which offered financial advice about investing in and trading CFDs without getting the necessary authorization from the FCA.

The stars facing charges include Geordie Shore star Scott Timlin; Lauren Goodger and Yazmin Oukhellou from The Only Way is Essex; and Love Island contestants Rebecca Gormley, Biggs Chris, Jamie Clayton, and Eva Zapico. If found guilty, these stars could be looking at up to two years behind bars. They are scheduled to appear before Westminster Magistrates Court on June 13, 2024.

Love & Marriage: Huntsville’s Martell Holt Arrested for Domestic Violence and Harassment

Moving on to Love & Marriage: Huntsville, things haven’t been so loving lately. Back in January 2024, Martell Holt, one of the show’s stars, was arrested for domestic violence charges against his ex-wife, Melody Shari Rogers. According to reports, he’d been harassing her for a while, showing up at her house uninvited, sending threatening messages, and even going as far as threatening to share revenge porn.

Holt got convicted on May 2, 2024, and he’s been court-ordered to never contact Rogers ever again. Plus, he got slapped with a fine of over $500 and is required to undergo a psychological evaluation. Holt, who is appealing the conviction, will have his next court appearance on June 18, 2024. Check out his smirking mugshot below.

Love and Marriage: Huntsville’s Destiny Payton Arrested for Fraud and Identity Theft

Another cast member from the same show, Destiny Payton, has also been arrested — twice! Last year, she was charged with forgery for putting a utility bill in her ex-husband’s name without his knowledge. She even livestreamed turning herself in on Instagram, full-on Kevin Spacey style from Se7en. Then this year, on May 16, 2024, Payton found herself in cuffs again, this time for fraud and identity theft. Details about these charges are still hush-hush, but she was booked at 1:34 pm and was out on a $5,000 bond by 3:08 pm.
