If anyone ever had a doubt just how devoted and dedicated to the causes she champions Q’orianka Kilcher is then they don’t really know the woman all that well. Despite still being a couple years from her 30th birthday she’s managed to put more heart and dedication into her life and the things she does than many accomplish by the time they’re in their 50s or older. If any weep for the youth of this nation then they need to turn their eyes towards those like Kilcher that might not always stand for the same ideals but will stand all the same since there’s little if any give in the beliefs she holds to and the lengths she’s willing to go to in order to see them realized. Some might call such a life that of a fanatic but in all honesty those that stand up for their beliefs are more commonly those that refuse to compromise when it’s not warranted.
Here are a few things you might not have known about her.
10. She competed in Star Search.
No it’s not an inaccuracy despite the fact that Star Search was an 80s show. What you need to remember is that it was revived and hosted by Arsenio Hall in the 2000s, which was when Kilcher came on the scene and starred on the show. Unfortunately she lost in a preliminary round.
9. She’s been in a music video.
The video was for Breathe In, Breathe Out, with Matt Kearney and it seems to be one of several appearances she’s made on film, but the only real music video that she’s helped out with. At the very least it’s a way to branch out in her career.
8. She’s a black belt in Wushu Kung Fu.
Kilcher has apparently been training since she was around 12 years old and is a very accomplished martial artist. It stands to reason then that you might see her in more action films but that’s not the case it seems. It could be that martial arts are a way for her to maintain fitness and personal balance but not something she’d like to use on screen.
7. She’s a stunt performer.
It seems she’s found something in her life that she’s good at but also manages to have other interests as well. Being a stunt performer is a risky job but she seems to take it in stride since she’s still around to tell about it.
6. She started hula dancing at age 5.
A lot of people might think hula dancing is just swaying your hips to the rhythm of the music and getting into it but quite honestly there’s more to it than that and it does involve a great deal of skill. Try is sometime, it’s not as easy as it looks.
5. She had a small role in How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
She might not be quite as recognizable in this role since everyone had to wear some sort of prostheses to become a Who and the part was fairly small. She was part of the choir that was singing in the movie and therefore didn’t get shown a lot.
4. She received a scholarship to the Musician’s Institute in Hollywood at age 12.
This is simply impressive to say the least since it’s not just anyone that gets a full scholarship to any school at the age of 12 no matter what anyone wants to say. That she received this shows a lot of confidence in her skills and her as a person.
3. She was in Sons of Anarchy.
This part lasted only so long as SAMCRO was in Ireland, which was a few episodes at least, but she played the daughter of one the more noticeable characters, Chibs. It was obvious he’d not seen his wife and daughter in quite some time due to some complications he’d had back home.
2. She’s been nominated for many awards.
She’s won several as well, proving that she’s in the right profession and that she has what it takes to impress the right people. Awards are great but the nominations are even greater as the feeling behind them is that the actor is good enough but needs to improve just a little more to win. Winning all the time tends to dull the edges of a person and make them a little less effective in their roles at times.
1. She and her mother chained themselves to the gate of the White House in 2010.
They were arrested and given community service not long after, but they were apparently protesting the arrival of a foreign president to the White House. There are ways to go about protesting, but making a spectacle isn’t always the way.
No matter what you want to believe, Kilcher is obviously a woman that stands by her convictions and is ready to defend them.
