The Arrowverse is a shared setting in much the same manner as either the DC Universe or the DC Cinematic Universe. It is called thus because it started with Arrow, a Green Arrow-centered TV show that started up in 2012 and has continued running since that time. Besides Arrow, there are a number of TV shows as well as a number of appearances that either state or suggest the existence of numerous [easyazon_link identifier=”B01N6ZPAU5″ locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]DC Comics characters[/easyazon_link] in said setting, with examples ranging from The Flash to John Constantine. As a result, it is no wonder that people are interested in whether their favorites exist in the Arrowverse or not, with an excellent example being Bruce Wayne as Batman.
Does Batman Exist in the Arrowverse?
So far, there is no simple and straightforward statement that [easyazon_link identifier=”B07468KZD7″ locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Bruce Wayne[/easyazon_link] exists in the Arrowverse but there are plenty of hints towards that conclusion. For example, there was a future newspaper in the pilot of The Flash that had the completion of a merger between Queen Inc. and Wayne Tech as one of its headlines, which suggests that Bruce Wayne’s family exists in some manner. Furthermore, Season 2 of The Flash had an episode called “Welcome to Earth 2,” which had a push-button phone bearing the names “Bruce,” “Hal,” and “Diana.” While said individuals were never brought up, the names are clear references to Bruce Wayne as Batman, Hal Jordan as Green Lantern, and Diana Prince as [easyazon_link identifier=”B0714QRG4Z” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Wonder Woman[/easyazon_link].
Besides [easyazon_link identifier=”B00TP016G8″ locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]The Flash[/easyazon_link], there are numerous hints suggesting that Bruce Wayne as Batman either exists or has existed in some manner in the main timeline of the Arrowverse. For example, Captain Rip Hunter from Legends of Tomorrow spoke about having seen the deaths of “men of steel” and “dark knights,” which are references to popular nicknames for Superman and Batman. However, his exact meaning is somewhat unclear because it is unknown whether he was referring to more than one person who have borne those superhero names or whether he was speaking thus for increased rhetorical effect.
Furthermore, [easyazon_link identifier=”B01AWGZXJY” locale=”US” tag=”tvovermind00a-20″]Supergirl[/easyazon_link] has hinted at the existence of Batman on not one but two separate occasions, with the first one being a statement from Superman that he knows a superhero with plenty of gadgets but also plenty of personal demons and the second one being a short exchange regarding a friend of Superman who was too intimidating. All of these hints are particularly striking in light of the fact that we know that Gotham exists in the Arrowverse because of Supergirl while we know that Bludhaven exists in the same shared setting because of Arrow, both of which are DC Comics settings with important connections to Batman and Batman-associated characters.
Summed up, the exact status of Bruce Wayne as Batman remains uncertain in the Arrowverse. However, there is more than enough evidence to suggest that he exists in some manner as an active superhero. Furthermore, considering the exact nature of some of the mentions, it seems probable that he will go on to inspire others in the shared setting in much the same manner that he does in the DC Universe. As a result, it is not unreasonable to believe that either he or his associated cast of characters will show up in the Arrowverse at some point in time.
