If you get the idea that failing your driver’s test is the worst thing that can happen take into account that Ozzy Osbourne failed his driving test more times than anyone would care to count. In fact he only managed to get his license at the age of 60 when he finally went through it without being messed up. His biggest explanation for failing so many times had to do with the fact that he was either drunk or stoned out of his gourd each and every time he took the test. He admits it was his lifestyle choices that kept him from passing so often, as he actually fell asleep during one driver’s test. It sounds like the instructor was at least kind enough to leave a note on the seat telling him that he had failed.
It’s funny really, you go through a good part of your life wanting to drive and do things the way the adults do, but then when you get there some of the luster has faded and you get to realizing that what you wanted so bad has a lot more to do with responsibility and accountability than you might have liked. Ozzy might not have realized this at the time but he was doing himself a service to not have a license. Had he been able to drive himself anywhere it would have been quite the disaster eventually considering that rumors have it that he was drugged out of his mind a good portion of the time during his earlier years. At one point he even bought a Ferrari, but Sharon put her foot down and said that he wasn’t having it since he had no license and likely no insurance. While the cost of the car and the other issues might have been easy to remedy the hit to his reputation as being a dangerous person on the road might have been something he could have never completely gotten rid of.
Now that he’s older and obviously can’t party nearly as hard as he used to, if he does at all these days, Ozzy might be better off having a license just so that he can get around when he needs to. Of course it remains to be seen just how good of a driver he is and how many years that will last, but at the very least he’s legal now and shouldn’t incur any flak over that. It’s hard to imagine anyone not having a driver’s license in this day and age when getting around is absolutely necessary for work and other matters, but there are still people that don’t have them. It’s not just for the practical reason of being able to drive however, it’s also a form of identification that allows people to know who you are and identify you in times of crisis, if such a thing were to ever happen. Ozzy surely wouldn’t need to worry about that, but the average person would.
I’d hate to hear just how many times he had to take that test.
