Orbit shows the viewer a look at the earth in a journey that’s created in real time, and as the world seems to spin you can get a grasp of just how fast the satellite must be moving. The earth isn’t the biggest planet in the solar system but it’s big enough that traversing it from one point all the way around is bound to take a while. Watching it roll by you can see the vast tracts of land and the even bigger stretches of water that dominate the globe, seemingly calm and tranquil within their boundaries as the improbability of how the earth remains a working system boggles the mind.
This brings to mind the idea of how anyone could believe in the theory of a flat earth. The very dynamic of the earth spinning confuses many since the idea that a globe could spin and not simply fling us all into space seems to defy the very natural laws that we cling to. And yet here we are and here we’ve been for countless generations. We haven’t been flung from the earth and we haven’t been crushed flat by centrifugal force as the earth continues to spin. Also, looking into the image you can clearly see a curve upon the far horizon, and you cannot see the entire distance around the earth from one vantage point. The curvature of the globe prevents this , meaning that it is in fact crafted into a spherical shape.
Those that believe in the flat earth theory, and there are still some out there, are a confounding lot simply because they refuse to recognize the truth of our world and how it conforms to the natural laws that it’s followed for so long. They want to believe there is an edge to this world, yet they won’t believe that anyone can sail off of it. They have yet to realize that NASA and every other space program in the world has not yet identified the earth as a two-sided panel that is set on a rotating axis. Just imagine if the earth was flat, sailors would have already sailed the world thousands of times before the 1900’s ever came along.
The world is an amazing place when you stop and look at it. Humanity often just looks at their own surroundings and thinks that this is it, this is all they are responsible for and all they can expect. But the world is a much bigger place and offers a wider view if one is willing to look. Those that still cling to the flat earth theory need to take a ride to the edge and toe the line, perhaps then they’ll find that world keeps going regardless of their beliefs. The idea that something ends when we can no longer see it is the belief of a child that hasn’t yet seen the world in its entirety. The wonder that waits to be seen is something unique and special that each person should experience at least once in life.
