Official Title for Star Wars: Episode VIII Will be “The Last Jedi”

The official Star Wars website shared a little bit of info with us today with regards to the newest installment of the Star Wars series.   According to the website:

We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI. THE LAST JEDI is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.

While the title of a movie might not draw so much attention for just about any other move in the galaxy, for Star Wards this is obviously a big deal.  Between now and December 15th, 2017, until we see a trailer or a screenshot, or anything that will give us a clue as to what will happen in episode VIII these are the little clues we have to go on.

Clearly because of the end of episode VII we know that Luke Skywalker is going to be in the fold a whole lot more.  Rather than his name being mentioned and people searching for him, this title leads me to believe he may very well be the star of the next movie.  And “Last Jedi” cannot mean the end of all Jedis as we know it, can it?  Of course not.  Given Rey’s astonishing advances in Jedi mastery one would have to think that Luke will take her under his wing at some point.

Regardless of what I, or anyone thinks, one thing that J.J. Abrams is a master of is teasing people.  This title is just another chance for people to speculate and the movie to get ready to bring in some serious dollars.
