New Movie Based on Clue To Star Ryan Reynolds?

There might actually be a few people that take issue with Clue being remade since it’s kind of reasonable to think that remakes and reboots are becoming a big issue at times since some of them are so horrible and others are good enough but still under the same stigma as the dumpster fires. But with Jason Bateman the helm and Ryan Reynolds coming on in some capacity you can imagine that some people might at least be a little forgiving. The idea that Tim Curry can’t and likely won’t be there is hard to accept since just about everything he was ever featured in has been great in some way, but unless he’s going to have a cameo or a voice role that gets worked into the movie somehow it’s just not going to happen. The 73-year old has been in his chair since his unfortunate stroke and at this point voice acting is about as good as it gets, though remembering his time in Clue and many other movies is pretty easy since he’s been iconic enough to have been listed as a legend long before this point. But as Jeremy Dick of MovieWeb has stated, Bateman did just win a surprise Emmy for his work on Ozark, so it’s fair to think that this version of Clue could be just as good as the original. It’s rare, but it can happen.

As Ale Russian from People puts it, Bateman is going to be putting his own spin on this movie, and you can bet that it’s going to involve just as much hilarity as the 80s version did since Bateman is known for his skill at being serious, funny, and seriously funny in equal measures when he needs to. He’s also been proven to be quite at being absolutely dramatic when the moment calls for it. What’s going to become of this movie is kind of hard to say since between Bateman and Reynolds there’s a level of sarcasm that many people would be confused and shredded by in equal measures given that the kind of acting they can give is very easy to get lost in since they’re so good at what they do. It’s unknown as of yet if Bateman will be starring in the movie as well as directing it but if he is taking on a role, no matter how small, it seems to be that he and Reynolds will be able to play off of one another just a well as they did in The Change-Up, though on a much more adult level since Clue is by far and large an adult comedy that is bound to be hilarious and hard to stop watching. It’s also curious though to think whether or not Bateman will be taking a hint from the first movie and will film three different endings so as to keep people guessing just who was guilty in the end of the crime that dominated the movie. Priscilla Frank of Huffpost is right in saying that the original was a flop, but thankfully it hit cult status a while later so it’s safe to say that it is still an effective movie.

There’s not much to say that this movie will top the 80s version or that Bateman will even be trying to do such a thing, but it could possibly give people living in the modern era something funny to watch and could update it so that more people can relate to the experience. Consider this, Clue was first released in the mid-80s, which means that the technology, the fashion, and even society were a lot different and are thus outdated as of now. If Bateman decides to keep the movie rooted in the 80s that’s all well and good, but he’d essentially be telling the same story and therefore not really doing anything that people might want to pay attention to. But if he decides to update the movie and make it a modern version then there are a lot of avenues he could take when it comes to fashioning a truly funny and possibly gripping tale that might actually capture the attention of many moviegoers and thereby up the chances of the movie being a hit at the box office. Ryan Reynolds is already a proven box office draw but he can’t do it all on his own, and while Bateman’s name is a sure thing to bet on when it comes to a movie since so many people know and like him as an actor, it’s still not quite enough to get people in the seats.

Hopefully this movie will be an updated version and will still be given that sense of charm and pomposity that made the first one great, otherwise it might be an attempt that kind of flounders and fails the moment it hits the screen. There’s enough faith that Bateman can pull this off and make something entertaining, but like all things it’s going to be a long wait until we get to see just what’s been produced.
