When The Last Starfighter hit the screens, it was hailed as one of the most awesome films in history. Sure, the special effects might look cheap and cheesy now, but back then, it was a kid’s dream to journey to the stars and unleash the dreaded Death Blossom. The acting may have been a bit cheesy too, but hey, it was the 80s! The movie’s concept was so grand and appealing that it captured the hearts of kids and even inspired adolescents and adults. The cast, many of whom were seasoned actors, played a significant role in making the film great. So, what has become of the cast since the movie’s release three decades ago? Some have passed away, while others are still acting or have moved on to other pursuits. But they can all look back and say they were part of something that entertained audiences back in the day.
With rumors of a sequel in the works, who knows how many of the remaining cast members might return for a cameo?
Robert Preston – Centauri
Centauri, the character who recruited Alex and set him on the path to becoming a starfighter, played a small but crucial role in saving the universe. Robert Preston only acted in a couple more movies after this before passing away in 1987, but he had a long and extensive career in TV and film.
Norman Snow – Xur
As Xur, the big bad and son of the commander of the Starfighter Legion, Norman Snow portrayed one of the galaxy’s most notorious villains. Since then, Snow has continued acting, primarily as a character actor. Rumor has it he’s looking forward to starring in the long-awaited sequel to The Last Starfighter, but there’s no word on when that might happen.
Barbara Bosson – Jane Rogan
Jane Rogan, Alex’s mother, didn’t have a huge role in the film, but she’s still worth mentioning. After The Last Starfighter, Barbara Bosson went on to star in a few movies and several TV shows. However, she dropped out of sight in 1997 and hasn’t been part of the acting scene since.
Catherine Mary Stewart – Maggie Gordon
Maggie, the woman of Alex’s dreams, eventually has to share him with the galaxy. Catherine Mary Stewart is still acting, but she hasn’t been seen in anything since 2013. She did star in the hilarious cult classic Weekend at Bernie’s and the Sylvester Stallone film Nighthawks.
Dan O’Herlihy – Grig
Grig, the navigator and Alex’s good friend, had a unique outlook on death and procreation. Dan O’Herlihy had a long career before The Last Starfighter and appeared in Robocop 1 and 2 before his passing in 2005.
Lance Guest – Alex Rogan/Beta Alex
The star of the movie, Alex Rogan, is a guy with big dreams but no clear direction. When he’s recruited into the Starfighter Legion, he’s blown away by what he sees and can’t believe that the video game he used to play so often was what got him noticed. Lance Guest has continued acting since the movie, appearing in Jaws: The Revenge and several other movies and TV shows, but he hasn’t been active since 2016.
Kay E. Kuter – Enduran
The father of the main enemy and the commander of the Starfighter Legion, Enduran survives the attack on Rylos and enlists Alex into the Legion to rebuild it. Kuter was a popular actor and appeared in several films after The Last Starfighter, including Warlock and as the voice of Grimsby in The Little Mermaid II. He passed away in 2003 from pulmonary complications.
The Last Starfighter remains a great movie, no matter what anyone says. Its nostalgic charm and the legacy of its cast continue to captivate audiences today.
