Michelle Williams, former “Dawson’s Creek” star, was paid less than $1,000 for the reshoot, which lasted for 10-days, of “All the Money in the World.” What’s even more shocking is that her co-star, Mark Wahlberg received $1.5 million for this same 10-day period. Back in November of 2017, when rape allegations were made against Kevin Spacey, the producer Ridley Scott, and studio, Imperative Entertainment, cut him from the movie. However, the film was already completed, which is what prompted the reshoot. Christopher Plummer is the actor who was chosen to replace Spacey.
The Replacement of Kevin Spacey
Originally, Spacey was cast to play the role of J. Paul Getty, the billionaire, in this kidnapping drama. All of the scenes that featured him were reshot over the 10-day period. This cost Imperative studio over $10 million to do; however, it was still able to make the release date of December 22nd, 2017.
The Start of the Scandal
Back in December, Ridley Scott told reporters from USA Today that everyone involved with the reshoot did it for absolutely nothing. The same thing was told by Scott to The Guardian recently. He added during these interviews that he refused payment and the actors all came in for free. Even though Plummer had to receive payment, Michelle did not. However, USA Today has now stated that Whalberg has negotiated to ensure he received a pretty heft fee for the entire reshoot period. Even though Williams is represented by the same agency, this wasn’t reported.
It Was a Messed Up Situation
Forbes announced that Whalberg was the highest-paid actor in 2017, coming in at $68 million. He is known for always driving a tough bargain when it comes to negotiating his rates to appear in movies. Williams is reported as telling USA Today that she was where she was needed, when she was needed. She wasn’t worried about her salary or her holiday. What she appreciated was the effort that was being made to reshoot this movie. Many actors, producers and others have agreed that this is quite “messed up.”
Awards for this Show
The movie, “All the Money in the World,” has received three nominations at the Golden Globes, which recently aired on television. This is when both female and male actors and actresses wore black in order to have the focus on the recently created Time’s Up Initiative, which is something that has the mission of achieving gender parity. While this huge pay gap is a serious issue, it is just one of many stories out there about how women in Hollywood — and virtually every industry — are underpaid compared to their mail equals. Unfortunately, this is an issue that doesn’t represent just a modern problem, as it is something that has been going on for decades. Finally, people in Hollywood and other industries are taking notice that it is no longer okay to have this attitude. When will women finally get their due in Hollywood?
