Melissa McCarthy Playing Sean Spicer on SNL was Genius

Forget about the fact that Kristen Stewart hosted her first Saturday Night Live last night.  That’s clearly not what’s going to go down as the most memorable moment.  Nope, it was politics.  SNL decided to pull out the big guns and go after Donald Trump’s press secretary Sean Spicer.  They did it with none other than Melissa McCarthy to play him.   In the skit:

White House press secretary Sean Spicer (Melissa McCarthy) and secretary of education nominee Betsy DeVos (Kate McKinnon) take questions from the press (Bobby Moynihan, Kristen Stewart, Cecily Strong, Vanessa Bayer, Alex Moffat, Mikey Day).

As many of you know Sean Spicer has been criticized repeatedly for being unprepared as well as continuous misreading of facts.  In addition, he’s been known to make up a few facts or two as well. Saturday Night live was not going to get this go on any further.  While I’m guessing Donald Trump might be somewhat relieved that a tiny bit of the show didn’t focus on him, he can’t be happy about the portrayal of his press secretary, Spicer.

McCarthy displayed her commanding comedic presence as a fed-up, unhinged Spicer who scolded reporters in a sketch that stretched well beyond seven minutes.
