Lucifer Review: Lucifer does good deeds. His immortality returns.

Lucifer

This week’s episode of Lucifer seems to be some kind of role reversal of sorts or Opposite Day as Lucifer put it. Our favourite Devil tries his hand at doing good deeds while helping to solve a homicide while Detective Decker takes a brief stroll to the Dark Side. Lucifer’s attempts at doing good deeds and feeling that rush through his veins made me want to shake my head. He actually gave that homeless guy the shirt off his back and apparently, his pants as well. Lucifer, it’s just a figure of speech! You don’t have to take it so literally!

I liked the scene where Detective Decker went all Lucifer on the lawyer. The black top and red dress combo that she was wearing was spot on. It would seem that Lucifer is starting to rub off on our Detective Decker and vice versa when the former found out that the latter is his Achilles Heel when it comes to his immortality given that with everyone else, he won’t get hurt or injured.

It’s interesting that the detective can make Lucifer feel more human rather than the immortal being that he is. Another interesting tidbit is that Lucifer offered up his “subway token” back to Hell to Malcolm so the latter won’t put a bullet through him. Guess even the Devil needs to make a deal so that he can live another day.

When Detective Decker confessed to Lucifer at Lux that she missed the old Lucifer as the man himself wanted to do more good (to get that rush he so desperately wanted), it made me think that the good detective is starting to understand the idea that Lucifer is who he says he is. I don’t know for certain, but there were hints of it during that scene.

I was shocked that Amenadiel would give into temptation and get it on with Maze in the car with Tom Jones’ “It’s Not Unusual” playing in the background. Though I do have to admit, the sexual tension between the archangel and the demoness is exhilarating to watch. It also seems that Maze will serve as a double agent, bringing information to both brothers when they need it. I certainly hope that she will take Lucifer’s warning to tread cautiously because I’m sure that the demoness doesn’t want to strain her relationship with Lucifer even more. I was even more shocked when Lucifer said to Malcolm that he had planned to use the coin to go back to Hell eventually made my eyes go wide because this kind of contradicts his whole “I don’t ever want to go back to Hell” thing. Though now that Malcolm has the coin, Lucifer can’t go back to Hell even if he wanted to.

The part where Malcolm held a gun in Lucifer’s face, saying that he won’t ever go back to Hell is kind of ironic. I mean, sure, he’s got a second chance at living out his life, but when he dies, he’ll go straight back to the place and suffer for all eternity. On a side note, I was amazed that Lucifer’s Devil face didn’t freak him out like it did with everyone else so far in this first season. I guess that the man saw his fair share when he was in Hell so that he’s grown immune to it.

This was an okay episode of Lucifer. I enjoyed hearing Tom Ellis sing again and rolling my eyes at the swooning desperate housewives and rich ladies. It was also amusing to see Lucifer make Detective Decker think that they slept together. I’m curious as to what Lucifer will do about this new development now that he knows that Detective Decker is the one that makes him more human and vulnerable. I half-wanted the detective to kiss Lucifer when she got close to him, but that’s just the fangirl in me.
