The moment of truth is upon us. The Devil finally gets some answers from the Sinnerman on tonight’s mid-season finale of Lucifer. We also find out the real identity of one Lieutenant Marcus Pierce.
This third mid-season finale did not exactly surprise me as much as the previous mid-season finales. Yes, my eyes went wide when Lt. Pierce stood up after Lucifer stabbed him in the chest. My mind immediately went to Superman-mode but then figured if that were the case, the knife would not go through him as he is the Man of Steel. In truth, Marcus Pierce is Cain, the Immortal or the world’s first murderer according to the Bible. Other than that, the entire episode felt underwhelming despite the social media hype.
The case of the week is an abduction case that turned out to be a faked one. The girl, Maggie Cole, arranged her kidnapping via the Sinnerman. She did so to obtain the position of Lead Jammer on her roller derby team. Maybe it would be wise to not tell the police about the grenade that was found under your car if the latter did not mention it, hmm, Maggie?
I also felt confused as I watched the episode. What is the Sinnerman’s connection to Pierce? Why is the former’s real desire is to die at the hands of the Devil? How much did Pierce/Cain tell the Sinnerman about Lucifer? On top of that, Detective Decker might have a brief romantic relationship with Lt. Pierce. Will Lucifer inform his partner of the lieutenant’s true identity? On the other hand, she might not believe him and will brush it off like it’s nothing. There are times where I wish that Lucifer would just tell Detective Decker the whole truth so she can finally believe him. I want my Deckerstar darn it!
The part where the detective and Lucifer came up with the plan to bust the Sinnerman out of jail was amusing. It had an Ocean’s Eleven vibe to it. Well, without an all-star cast with Mr. George Clooney at the helm. I felt sorry for Detective Espinoza when he received a (fake) bomb at his desk. Agree on the muffin basket for next time! I had thought that the two would get away with it had it not been for Pierce sitting in the driver’s seat of the transport van. Wonder how he found out though? Did Ella overdo her Ella-ness on him?
In the end, the Sinnerman got his wish. However, he did not die at the hands of Lucifer but Lt. Pierce. The latter shot him when the Sinnerman attempted to get Lucifer to slit his throat.
The most heart-breaking scene in this episode is the detective’s hurt at the fact that Lucifer went behind her back to exact his vengeance on the Sinnerman. I understand that Lucifer did what he did to protect Detective Decker and to get his Devil face back along with the removal of his wings, but it’s still no excuse for going behind her back and taking the Sinnerman hostage.
Final Thoughts:
Sinnerman’s puns about seeing everyone again. Yeah, too soon. However, I do appreciate the Silence of the Lambs reference in the interrogation room!
The part where Lucifer spilled the large glass of beer to trip Helena Handbasket was ingenious! I would’ve preferred if Detective Decker put on a pair of roller-skates and tackle Helena to the ground but it is what it is.
Ella appears to have a crush on Lt. Pierce. I do wonder what her reaction will be when she finds out that he isn’t who he says he is?
It was interesting to see Maze refrain from taking a human life. She tortured the Sinnerman, of course, but she did not kill the man. I guess even demons fear the wrath of God.
My heart also went out to the Devil as he feared that if the Sinnerman is not stopped, then those he cared about (as in Detective Decker) will be targeted. It’s okay, Luci-boy! Deckerstar will be the endgame, I’m sure of it!
Speaking of torture, listening to Nickelback music on repeat is torture enough for anyone. Fortunately, I have been spared from having to endure such pain.
More confusion: Since when did Lucifer buy all those houses? I know that he has money to burn, but he has never used any of them as he lives above LUX in his penthouse. Care to share, Luci-boy?
Kudos to Charlotte for babysitting Trixie. That and taking the little girl’s advice on getting her children’s father to agree to let her see said children. Oh, and since when is Detective Espinoza Super Dad? Someone mind explaining that to me?
