Long-Running Lucifer Fan Theory Confirmed on Supernatural

For those who are unfamiliar with them, Supernatural angels are not very good at interacting with humans while still in their natural forms. In part, this is because the mere sight of them will kill most humans on the spot. However, it should be mentioned that even the sound of their voices can deafen listeners. As such, when angels want to interact with humans in a meaningful manner, they need to do so by using a human as a vessel.

With that said, some humans make much better vessels than others. Furthermore, this is something that varies from angel to angel, meaning that an outstanding vessel for one angel isn’t necessary an outstanding vessel for another angel. In story, this is important because compatibility has a strong influence on the outcome of the possession. Someone who is incompatible will explode in a shower of blood when possessed by an angel. However, even someone who is compatible but not perfectly so will result in an angel that isn’t able to use the full range of their abilities. Never mind the effects on the vessel’s well-being in the long run. It isn’t until an angel possesses the perfect vessel that it can use its powers in full, thus making it an incredible force for whatever ends it seeks.

What Was the Fan Theory That Was Confirmed By Supernatural Regarding Lucifer’s Vessel?

For several seasons, the story of Supernatural focused on Dean and Sam Winchester being the perfect vessels for Michael and Lucifer. Since Michael and Lucifer wanted to kick off the Apocalypse by fighting one another, the Winchester brothers were less than enthused about the prospect, particularly since both sides were capable of being pretty manipulative about the situation. As a result, both Michael and Lucifer sought out temporary vessels to enable them to act even without being able to possess Dean and Sam.

In Lucifer’s case, his vessel was a man named Nick, whose family had been killed in a home invasion while he was out. When Lucifer came asking him to serve as his vessel, Nick’s initial reaction was refusal in spite of the fact that he was hallucinating at the time. However, when Lucifer offered to find justice for Nick’s murdered family, that prompted Nick to say “Yes.” On the whole, Nick was compatible but far from being perfectly so. Certainly, he made it possible for Lucifer to use his powers. However, the show went out of its way to show that Nick’s body was falling apart because of Lucifer’s presence. Still, he was a very lucky find for Lucifer considering the rarity of humans who can last for even a short period of time while being possessed by an archangel, so much so that a lot of people have had some serious suspicions about just how much luck was involved in the process.

Now, Season 14 of Supernatural has revealed that there wasn’t any luck involved in the process on Lucifer’s part, though an argument can be made that Nick was the victim of incredible bad luck. In short, what happened was that Lucifer influenced the course of events to prepare Nick for use as a temporary vessel in much the same manner that he prepared Sam for use as his perfect vessel. In fact, Lucifer was the one who told the demon Abraxas to kill Nick’s family, thus putting him in a more receptive state of mind for when Lucifer came calling. As for the bad luck, well, suffice to say that there wasn’t anything particularly special about Nick save that he possessed enough potential as a vessel to be compatible with Lucifer for a time. Due to this, the demons didn’t have to prepare him, they just chose him out of all of the other possibilities.

Theoretically, it is possible that the demon Abraxas was lying when he told all of this to Nick. However, the whole thing makes a lot of sense, meaning that there is no reason to disbelieve the basic details until more information comes up in the show. As a result, it is safe to say that the long-running fan theory about there being something suspicious to the ease with which Lucifer found a vessel has been confirmed, which is pretty neat on the part of the people behind Supernatural.
