It was just a matter of time before the successful Lethal Weapon movie franchise made it into network television. Like so many other movies adapted for television, Lethal Weapon has a great character that could really carry the show. Fans remember Mel Gibson playing the insane cop Martin Riggs. FOX is hoping that Rectify alumni Clayne Crawford can bring the same spark that Gibson did in the movies to TV.
According to Deadline: In the pilot, written by Matt Miller and directed by McG, when Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Riggs suffers the loss of his wife and baby, he moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he is partnered with LAPD Detective Roger Murtaugh, who, having recently suffered a “minor” heart attack, must avoid stress in his life.
But what’s even better news is the man who is playing Danny Glover’s character Roger Murtaugh. It’s going to be Damon Wayans Sr. I can’t believe we have to use Sr. While Crawford isn’t a huge star this could be a polarizing role for his career.
As far as Wayans goes let’s see how well he can fill Danny Glover’s shoes. The pilot will be one hour long. No dates set as to when it’ll premiere on FOX. P.S. who is playing Joe Pesci’s role?
