What We Know About the Olympus Has Fallen Sequel

In 2013, Olympus Has Fallen came out to a poor reception from critics but a much more positive response from movie-goers. For proof, look no further than the fact that it earned more than $170 million at the box office on a $70 million budget, which was enough to convince its studio to launch a franchise. As a result, a sequel called London Has Fallen came out in 2016, which was even more successful in a commercial sense in that it earned more than $205 million at the box office on a $60 million budget. Now, there is news that there will be a second sequel to the Has Fallen franchise, though it is still in the earlier stages of development.

For those who are unfamiliar with the Has Fallen franchise, the installments can be summed up as action thrillers. In brief, Olympus Has Fallen was centered around a Secret Service Agent who had to rescue the President of the United States as well as a significant portion of his administration from North Korean infiltrators who are planning to coerce the U.S. military from leaving South Korea as well as blow up U.S. nuclear bombs by using the fictional Cerberus system. Likewise, London Has Fallen was centered around the same Secret Service Agent having to rescue the same President of the United States when a London meeting of international leaders is attacked by a Pakistani terrorist mastermind. Summed up, the Has Fallen franchise is complete and utter nonsense but it happens to be the entertaining sort of nonsense.

What Do We Know About the Olympus Has Fallen Sequel?

So far, we don’t know much about the next installment in the Has Fallen franchise, which will be called Angel Has Fallen. Seeing as how Angel is a code-name for Air Force One in the franchise, it seems probable that interested individuals can expect some sort of assault on the President of the United States while he is in the air, though it remains to be seen whether said assault will come from either the interior or the exterior of the plane. Regardless, it is interesting to note that Angel Has Fallen will have a plot deviation from its predecessors in that the Secret Service Agent will be as much of a target as the President of the United States, which makes sense considering the body count that he has managed to accumulate over the course of his career so far.

Besides bits and pieces of the basic plot, we also know that Gerald Butler will be returning to his role as Mike Banning, the Secret Service Agent. Furthermore, we know that Morgan Freeman will be reprising his role as Allan Trumbull, who started out a Speaker of the House in Olympus Has Fallen but had risen to Vice President of the United States by London Has Fallen. Meanwhile, Ric Roman Waugh has been chosen as the director of the movie, while the co-creators of the franchise will be co-writing the script. This sums up the information that has been released so far, but considering the commercial success of the franchise so far, it seems probable that more news will come out sooner rather than later.
