Katie Zacharia made history earlier this month by serving the shortest tenure of any White House press secretary, from October 9 to October 16.
Her fumbling during her only media interaction on October 13 drew intense social media backlash and reportedly contributed to her firing.
“There were kids doing the morning assembly at my elementary school who were smoother at their presentations,” a critic wrote at the time.
However, Zacharia believes all the ridicule was “worth it,” revealing in a new interview that the experience taught her kids an invaluable life lesson.
Katie Zacharia reflected on her final day as press secretary and the example she set for her children

Zacharia spoke from the patio of her Southern California home on Monday, October 26, as The California Post reported.
She revealed that the day she was fired fell just one day after her eldest son’s birthday.
The occasion, therefore, culminated in a dinner with Vice President JD Vance.
She then went on to share what she thinks of her ousting as the White House Press Secretary, acknowledging, “It was a tough night.”
“What I will mark is that maintaining your character, no matter the circumstance, for me is what defined the entire process,” she continued, adding that she was also glad that through the fiasco she got to teach her kids “to be loyal, be faithful and be true to who you are even when the whole world turns against you.”

Zacharia maintained that the public fallout from her sole appearance at the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room was a small price to pay for setting an example for her children.
“What they witnessed was a mother standing strong while she’s an international meme, or when everyone’s making fun of her, including people who we thought would be on our side,” she told The Post.
“If I went through that entire thing only to teach my kids to have integrity and to have loyalty, then I think it was worth it,” she said.
Zacharia also defended her headline-making performance in the briefing room.
Katie Zacharia attributed her shaky performance before reporters to a lack of preparation time

Zacharia appeared on pro-Trump Fox News a day before her firing, seemingly hoping to regain the president’s favor.
Instead, the interview backfired as Sean Hannity, a friend and informal adviser to the president, repeatedly challenged her.
Hannity described Zacharia’s press debut as “widely panned.”
She defended herself by acknowledging that she had “very little prep time,” explaining that Trump had offered her the job during their first in-person meeting about the role.

She reiterated that point in her conversation with The Post on Monday, saying, “I didn’t have adequate runway to be able to give a comprehensive briefing to the American people.”
Zacharia also pushed back against speculation surrounding the circumstances of her appointment.
Zacharia rejected the suggestions that she had been selected via internal favors

Zacharia interned for the Republican National Committee and the White House Office of Political Affairs during the George W. Bush administration in 2006.
The experience helped pave the way for her to become a frequent political commentator on right-wing networks, including Newsmax and Fox News.
In her conversation with The Post, she said Donald Trump recruited her directly after years of hard-fought television appearances and early-morning cable news segments.

When asked about the president’s response to her departure, she recalled him telling her, “You know there are other ways to make a living.”
Despite her departure, Zacharia vowed to remain an ally of Trump from outside the executive branch.
Zacharia called Trump “the greatest president” and said he deserved better support from the press
In addition to speaking with The California Post, Zacharia detailed her experience in an opinion piece for the outlet.
“I’ve always wanted to work for President Donald Trump, so being back in California feels like an interlude — a temporary pause between the work that matters most,” she began.
Zacharia wrote that she was “grateful for the time with my family, and more determined than ever that I will never stop fighting for President Trump and the America First agenda in whatever capacity I’m given.”

She then took aim at media organizations, arguing that Trump “deserved a press corps that reports his results straight.”
She accused “fake news networks” of having “incurable Trump derangement syndrome.”
Zacharia described Trump as “the greatest president,” saying she had watched him “stand for the candidates he endorsed, speak for hours, and refuse to treat the midterms as a managed decline.”
She also praised his “pure, unrelenting energy and enthusiasm.”
Ultimately, Zacharia declared that Trump was “working harder than any president in American history.”
“Don’t take a job you are not qualified for,” a netizen quipped about Zacharia’s claims
