Ashley Graham is one of the most famous models in the world. She’s considered a plus-size model, but no one notices anything other than her sheer beauty. She’s taken the world by storm over the years, and fans often love that she’s so open, honest, and confident in herself while simultaneously working in an industry that celebrates being thin like it’s the only way to achieve success. She’s defied all the odds. She’s managed to create a career for herself when many thought she wouldn’t, she fell in love, she got married, and she had a baby. She’s done it all, and she’s done it all with grace. But, we still don’t know that much about her husband, Justin Ervin, and we thought we might change that.
1. He is Not New in Her Life
Justin Ervin and Ashley Graham have been married approximately a decade, and they were together long before that. He might not be someone we know that much about, but he is a man who has been in her life, so we’ve seen him around. They are adorable together, and we love their love.
2. He’s a Director
If you’re ever wondering what he does for a living, he directs things. Not only does his direct some of the work his wife does, he also directs other campaigns for some of the biggest brands in the world. He’s a man who is good at what he does, and he has a long list of talents. He’s also a cinematographer, a writer, and a producer. We like to call him a man of many talents.
3. He’s Educated
You don’t get to be that talented without having some training along the way. Sure, he undoubtedly has a natural talent for what he does – you don’t meet this kind of success without being good at what you do – but he also has his MFA. It’s in social documentary filmmaking. He obtained his MF from the School of Visual Arts, which is in New York.
4. Porn Brought them Together
Honestly, it’s not how many people find a life partner, but who are we to judge? They actually met at church, but it happened to be something called Porn Sunday when they met. Porn stars – former – were in church that day for a special program in which they discussed things like how they changed their lives by finding God and attending church. She was working the elevators that day when he got on. It was love.
5. He’s Smart and Funny
So says his wife. She initially did not find him to be her type. She did, however, enjoy how funny he was and how smart he was. It seems those were the things that got him in the (elevator) door. He’s lucky otherwise she might not have given him a chance.
6. His Wife’s Family Did Not Accept Him
Their relationship was not easy at first. She readily admits that where she grew up in Nebraska, there were not many black people. And, it turns out her family is not color blind as she’d hope they might be. She was hurt and disappointed in her family, especially her grandmother who did not acknowledge Ervin at all during their trip. It was a long road for them.
7. He Wasn’t Letting Go
When your love’s family doesn’t care for you because of the color of your skin, it might be easy to walk away from what might prove to be a very challenging and hurtful future. He did no such thing, however. He called her grandmother personally to congratulate her on her wedding anniversary, and the game changed. They begam making a connection, and he won over her family. We assume they also found him smart and funny, and it really is a difficult combination to resist.
8. He Is Faithful
Very faithful, in fact. It was his faith that had him wanting to abstain until marriage, and they did. They dated for a full year, got engaged, and then got married two months after their engagement. It was worth the wait for both of them. In fact, his wife says that the secret to a good marriage is to simply have sex all the time because it keeps them from being snippy and it keeps them wanting to be close together.
9. They Have a Darling Son
They wed when they were both 22, but now they’re both in their early 30s and looking to live their lives to the fullest. They had their own baby boy in early 2020 (January), and they are in love with his sweet little self. His name is Isaac Menelik Giovanni Ervin, and they are over the moon with their new little family.
10. He Knew His Son’s Name Since Middle School
We love this. It’s sweet and darling, and it reminds me of my own husband who knew what our first daughter’s name would be for many years before we decided to have kids. Ervin knew in middle school he was going to have a son called Isaac, and he never wavered.
