John Oliver’s ‘Last Week Tonight’ Renewed by HBO Through 2020

This is just too awesome. Last Week Tonight on HBO has been renewed through 2020, so we’ll get to hear more and more of John Oliver for the next few years, and I’ll be he’s going to have a few awesome shows that will completely rip into the people that think that they’re beyond reproach. He’s done it already and continues to do it in a fashion that lot of people think is hilarious and finally giving those that don’t find their own lives all that humorous a taste of what they really deserve.  Personally I’ve laughed my butt off at every broadcast I’ve seen of his because so much of it seems right on point and true in a way that most shows are afraid to reveal.

Has he gotten in trouble for the people he targets? Of course, but the point of it is that he’s kept on going and he’s been rewarded for it with a continuation of his show that will keep badgering at those that in my opinion truly deserve it. The bigwigs and the corporate execs that land in his comedic crosshairs usually seem to be those that think they can do no wrong and are essentially untouchable.

Guess what? Humor touches pretty much everyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re rich and can file a lawsuit with a snap of your fingers or are the current POTUS, humor can bite anyone at any time. It can even bit Oliver now and again if he moves forward without testing the terrain, but unless he seriously goes over the top and off the reservation there’s not a lot that can be done to him or the show without making those doing the complaining look like over-privileged bullies. After all we’ve already lost a show or two to the whims of those that feel the need to pout and whine until they get their way, so if Oliver went anywhere it’d just be another loss of faith in those that are supposed to be the leaders of this country.

Oliver doesn’t sugarcoat what he says and that’s great. He puts it all out there for you and doesn’t attempt to hedge his words in any way. He’s either firmly against you or firmly for you, and if it’s the former then chances are good that you’re in for a long and painful roast that you probably won’t like. But to be completely fair if you were a better person then Oliver might not have anything to say about you aside from picking apart something funny that happened in the media.

Those he goes after are usually those that have already messed up in some regard when it comes to the public and don’t happen to think that anything they’ve done is wrong. They’re the people that a lot of folks don’t understand still garner support from their followers, even if they happen to be hurting them as well with their actions. It’s okay though, Oliver is there to give them what for even if they don’t like it.
