The Bold and the Beautiful fans have long since loved the man who plays Eric. He’s John McCook, and he’s a long-time soap star, and he’s been around the block a time or two. He’s had wife after wife, drama after drama, and he’s been the patriarch of a very important family on television for some years. However, he’s not just Eric. He’s his own person outside of work, and we cannot help but wonder what it is we don’t know about him. Is he someone we can get to know a little better? We will find out.
1. He’s a California Man
John McCook was born and raised in California. He’s not a man who wants to leave the state in which in he was raised, and that is good news for him. His birth was in 1944 in the middle of June. He was born in Ventura, and he was raised there, too.
2. He’s Been Married Three Times
McCook is a lot like his character on television in that he’s not afraid of marriage, even if he knows it didn’t work out a few times before. He was married for the first time in 1962 for 9 years. He was married for the second time in 1972 for seven years. He got married the last time in 1980.
3. He Has Four Kids
He doesn’t share all four with any of his wives. He has one son with his second wife, who passed away. They had a son in 1972. He also has three more kids with his current wife. They are her only children. He had no children with his first wife, Marilyn McPherson.
4. He Starred On Another Soap First
He’s been Eric Forrester since 1987. That’s 31 years so far, and he’s the only man who has ever played the role. He was, however, with the Young and the Restless first. He spent many years playing Lance Prentiss. When he was done with that role, he was ready to move on and take on a new role.
5. He’s Been Nominated for Two Emmys
He’s never won any, but his role as Eric Forrester has earned the man two Emmy nominates. The first one was in 2001. The second was in 2012. He’s good at what he does, but he’s not always the lead story all the time. He has his months of being on the screen all the time, but it’s his kids and grandkids that take the lead these days.
6. His Wife is An Actress
His wife, Laurette Spang, was an actress. She left acting around ten years ago, but she was in several popular television shows. She was quite famous for some of her roles, but she is someone who gave up the role of actress when she was done with it. She hasn’t even guest starred on anything in that time.
7. He’s Been Married A Long Time
He may be a man who was married three times, but that certainly doesn’t mean anything in terms of marriages not working out for him. He’s been married to his third wife since 1980. That’s nearly 40 years at this point, and he was married to his two other wives for a grand total of 16 years. He’s been married almost 56 years of his life at this point with only a year or so in between each marriage.
8. He’s Made History on B&B
He, along with Katherine Kelly Lang, are currently the only two people who are on this show that have been there since the start. She plays Brooke, his current daughter-in-law, and she’s been playing that role as long as he’s been playing his.
9. He’s a Regular Guest Star
Aside from his work in the soaps, he’s spent his fair amount of time doing some guest starring in other roles. He’s done what he can in a show here and there, and he’s made some friends with people he’s guest starred with along the way. He’s even guest starred with people who ended up later coming to work with him.
10. He Never Left California
He was born and raised in Ventura. And now he lives in Los Angeles with his wife. They’ve been there for many years, which makes sense considering he does work there. It’s common when you’re an actor.
