I’ve Spent 3 Months In Lockdown Making Collages Out Of Old Magazines

I am a 30-year-old guy from Cape Town, South Africa, and we’ve been in various stages of lockdown since the end of March. I’ve been into photography for years, but just before lockdown ended up, I started making collages in an art therapy group. It was so much fun and so fulfilling that I carried on, and haven’t stopped yet.

I didn’t have a steady job before lockdown, and the work I did have stopped because of lockdown, so I basically spent all day every day making collages, starting with postcard-sized ones. Now the biggest collage I’ve done is around A2—a commission based on a film poster.

Luckily some of my collages have been bought and I’ve done a few commissions; it’s a tentative dream that at some point I’ll be able to pursue art as a career. For now, I’m just carrying on, trying to improve and finding new inspiration.
