I Made Small Artworks To Overcome Blank Page Syndrome

Many artists have faced blank page syndrome where they sit on their desk staring at a blank piece of paper, unable to draw something. I often get those, which impedes my productivity to the point where I said to myself, “OK, that’s it, I have to find a cure.” So my art inspiration journey begins.

Then, one day I stumbled upon a few artists posting pencil sketch cards online. I was so fascinated by their cool art that I started to do a bit of research. After a few google-fu moves, I’m amazed that there’s a whole community dedicated to artist/sketch cards. Fortunately, I kept stacks of leftover watercolor paper from my recent commissions. About a hundred pieces of paper with size varied from 2″ x 2.5″ to 3″ x 5″.

I start playing with drawing ideas right away, doodling and scribbling on them. In just a few days, I’ve done dozens of small colorful paintings. It was definitely a rewarding experience. Drawing inspiration poured well, my creative energy level is over 9000, and I’m enjoying the whole process. Currently, I’m challenging myself on inktober doing two cards each day, to push my limit even further.

Long story short, I think the moral of my story here is to play, have fun, and try new things with your art. Rip a page, throw some paint, or maybe even break a vase. Start, play, finish, learn, improve.

Lastly, what do you usually do when you get the blank page syndrome? I appreciate it if you would like to share your strategies with everyone reading this.

Thank you so much for reading. I hope you will get something useful from this. See you soon!
