It’s Monday. It’s a holiday. And there’s not a whole bunch on TV tonight. Unless you’re into The Bachelor which plenty of people are, aside from Celebrity Apprentice and some staples on History and The Discovery Channel, I’d consider it a pretty light night on television. I mean unless you’re into Kevin Can Wait (which I refuse to ever watch) or Gotham (which I’ll get around to soon), choices aren’t that fantastic, which is why I’m gonna give The Howie Mandel All-Star Comedy Gala a shot.
Appearing on the CW, Howie Mandel hosts a stand-up-comedy showcase at the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal. Performers include Jay Pharoah; Iliza Shlesinger; Russell Brand; JB Smoove; Alonzo Bodden; Jo Koy; Matt Donaher; Ryan Hamilton; Gina Brillon; and Tom Papa.
While the cast isn’t exactly a home run hitting team of comedians, Jay Pharoah, Russell Brand, and JB Smoove are enough to convince me to tune in. I’ll give Tom Papa the benefit of the doubt as well. As far as the other names, I haven’t really heard of them.
Plus there’s good ol’ Howie himself. Although I have to say I would pay to see him come out with his old school perm hairdo. How about Howie Mandel huh? Does anyone realize how ridiculously silly he was in the 80s? I never stop thinking about him playing a man/wolf in that movie “Walk like a Man” or when he was in that awful comedy with Ted Danson called “One Fine Mess.”
I swear to God if you saw Howie Mandel in a clip from his 80s fame and then flipped over to America’s Got Talent, you would never know it was him. Not even remotely. I feel like Howie Mandel might be one of the most evolved people in human history.
Anyway, give his All-Star comedy gala a shot tonight. You’ve got nothing else to lose. Oh and just in case you thought I’d forget. Here’s the trailer for Walk like a Man
