The Honest Game Trailer for “Mega Man”

The Honest Game Trailer for “Mega Man”

Maybe honesty isn’t always the best policy. In Mega Man’s case it seems like overkill. At least the narrator got one thing right, this game used to be murder to play. As fun as it was it could also be soul-crushing to almost get to the next level and then have your hopes dashed by one little misstep. I’m betting more than one person went through at least one or more controllers in their lifetime thanks to Mega Man.

Despite that this video game gem has never sat on the shelf for long since he still has a lot of devoted fans that are more than happy to keep playing and to follow his adventures. It might be that since his outer design is so simple and not too challenging that he appeals to more people simply because he doesn’t look threatening at all. Obviously he holds a lot more power than it looks like but overall it seems like Mega Man’s popularity is due more to the fact that he looks like a regular person despite the wealth of weaponry he carries around.

He’s known as Rockman in Japan, which is kind of odd to Americans but we can go with it. He’s also been around for three decades now, having been released by Capcom in 1987. Mega Man was one of those games you didn’t think much about even when you were playing. Even when a game had just come out at that point the idea was already in place that it might not last that long because let’s face it, anything new gets old after a few tries and if it’s too hard to pass you either become determined to beat it just to spite the computer or you give up because it’s taking up too much of your time.

Mega Man’s been around longer than a lot of current gamers have been alive, and he’s gone through a startling number of games and appearances in his time. In some ways he’s almost like the celebrity in the gaming universe that still has a chance to be popular but isn’t quite hitting the same level that he became accustomed to during the peak of his career. In some ways he’s kind of like the Antonio Banderas of video games. How’s that for a comparison, did it catch you off guard?

It’s true though. Mega Man has had so many games, so many copycats, and so many spinoffs that to list them all I’d need another article and even then I’m not sure it could be done. Seriously, he’s been in that many different thing.

And his enemies, oh my goodness, let’s not get into the list of enemies that are so hilariously described in the video. I think there’s three different villains named Bomberman for crying out loud, that’s how badly the creators were starting to run out of material it seems.

Mega Man is still a superstar in the game world, but for real and honestly, you need to up your game a little bit, and starring in other people’s games isn’t working.
