Hawaii Five-0 Season 5 Episodes 24 Review: “Luapo’I (Prey)”

Hawaii Five-0

Holy moly mother of twists, turns and fairytales! I’ll admit, I haven’t been that happy with the scattered pace of Hawaii Five-0‘s fifth season; but if there’s one thing Five-0 knows how to do, it’s a finale. Read on for the part one recap, and then head over to part two to see how Hawaii Five-0 ended its fifth season.

The Five-0 team is preparing for Kono and Adam’s wedding. With just a few days until the ceremony, Chin is determined to find out if Adam is back in bed with the Yakuza. Kono has no knowledge of any of this, and is simply a little sad that her mother’s health has prevented her from helping with the wedding.

The team catches a case pre-wedding, one that should simply be a traffic stop gone wrong, except their victim was a kidnapper. It turns out the man who shot and killed him was his mark, as the victim was a bounty hunter. The team then learns that their killer is actually a corrupt cop named Pelham. Another bounty hunter named Malloy is not giving up his bounty, though, and he picks up Pelham on his own, then trades him to the father of the young girl Pelham killed. There is nothing more dangerous than a parent seeking revenge, but it takes a certain conviction to go through with that kind of torture. Pelham understands this, which is why he is just sick enough to cut off his own thumb in order to get out of his chains and attack his captor. He even gets the drop on Steve for a brief minute, before being permanently locked up.

All of this pre-wedding criminal chasing is exhausting enough, but it is Danny’s ex-wife who drops the biggest shock of the night which will have lasting ramifications on Danny. Danny and Melissa (formerly Amber) are blissfully happy, but Danny begins getting some very strange, cryptic calls from his ex-wife Rachel. Not wanting to alarm Melissa, Danny doesn’t tell her about the calls (despite the fact that she sneaks a peek at his phone and knows anyways). Danny meets a despondent Rachel, who tells him that her son Charlie is sick and needs a bone marrow transplant. She is telling Danny specifically because he is Charlie’s real father (FYI, I called this three years ago!). Naturally, Danny is furious about  having been kept away from his son, and I’ll admit I have some choice words for Rachel myself, given that she even had the gall to sue Danny for custody of Grace after Charlie was born, and that was also after Danny was in the delivery room for Charlie’s birth. Steve reminds Danny that his anger with Rachel needs to take a step back, as his son now needs to be his first priority.

That’s only half the story. Head over to part two of the season finale to see the moments leading up to Kono and Adam’s wedding.
