There was a short marketing blurb, but it was written in a manner that said much without revealing much. However, the short marketing blurb did reveal that Minhaj’s new comedy show will be examining both the cultural and the political issues of the present, which is perhaps unsurprising when he joked about not being able to wait to see Putin has picked this time as the election season starts ramping up again when he spoke out on his thoughts about signing up with Netflix.
With that said, Minhaj’s previous works suggest that he could bring a fresh perspective to the world of comedy. After all, he is not just the first Indian-American person to have his own weekly comedy show but also the first Indian-American Muslim person to have his own weekly comedy show, which makes the announcement something of a landmark to say the least. As a result, it will be interesting to see how he brings his experiences as an Indian-American Muslim to his new comedy show, seeing as how they had a profound impact on his previous collaboration with Netflix, which was called Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King. For example, said collaboration included a story about Minhaj going to his senior prom date’s house to find out that her parents had found a white boy for her to take because they didn’t like how it would look if she went with Minhaj. Furthermore, there was the story of how he grew up in California with no one but his father for a total of eight years because his mother was finishing medical school in India, with the result that when the family reunited, he met a younger sister that he never even knew existed. Finally, it is interesting to note that Minhaj revealed the story of his parents’ disapproval when he became engaged to Beena Patel, with whom he is now married. Something that happened because they were a Muslim family while Patel was a Hindu.
