As Alien: Covenant makes its final marketing push this week I feel like it’s time to reflect on the entire process. To be honest I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie campaign that’s been so consistent and so over the top in terms of pushing itself. It felt like there were at least a dozen trailers even though technically I think there were 7 which is still an insanely high number. As far as posters there were at least 15 and that’s not including fan art. Then you’ve got Alien fever with regard to merchandise, art, home goods, you name it. It was endless.
Part of me was happy about all the hype because it was kind of cool seeing Alien plastered everywhere, and the other part of me is glad it’s nearly over. Let’s just get through all the crap, see this movie, and make our determination as to whether or not all the hype was worth it. I’m guessing it’s not going to be worth it, but what do I know?
